Timing belt tensioners if needed ($650.00) $585.00 with FCA 10% discount -- Ricambi lists these as $654 for the LH and $$67 for the RH ????? Valve cover gaskets, spark plug hole seals, and cam seals($1958.00) $1762.20 with FCA 10% discount. Not sure why the tensioners whole be "as needed". From my service history I don't see where they were ever replaced. Thanks Alan
Alan - I just had timing belts and tensioner bearings replaced - Couple of comments: -Work was done at a highly regarded Independent here in San Diego (Bobileff Motorcars) Cost for the belts was $1100.00. This was a "lock and swap" replacement. -As for the tensioner bearings, they were both failing. Had severe vibration on the 5-8 tensioner and very heavy vibration on the other. These bearings (Ferrari parts) had been replaced exactly two years ago along with a belt change. I decided to replace the belts along with new tensioners. We replaced bearings with Hill Engineering parts. These are $414 for the pair, as compared to the Ferrari prices you posted! All my research, as well as the input from Bobileff, indicates the Hill Engineering are vastly superior. If you are changing belts and are running on original tensioner bearings, I would sure install the Hill Engineering bearings also. Cheers, Andy
Tensioners or tensioner bearings? Tensioners are as needed. Tensioner bearings are replaced pretty much every time.
Okay I didn't realize they were talking about different things -- thought the tensioner and bearing where a single assembly. That makes sense as they wrote "as needed" and quoted a price for both less than a single tensioner. I will definitely go with the HE ones. I know I have a small oil leak and even with the under tray off I could not see where it was coming from only that it was dripping (or running to) the top of the AC compressor. My indie who looked at it for me said that the timing cam belt covers need to come off to truly see if it's the cam seals or cam cover gasket. Would the cam covers need to come off to change the cam seals? If so that makes sense as to why the quoted both seals and gaskets. I would love to have my indie mechanic do the belts but if the cam seals need replacing he said he could not do that (or didn't want to). Thanks Alan
My service advisor just replied to my query about the cam seals and cover seals. "If you remove the cam cover and intend to replace the cam cover gasket the cam seals have to be replaced as well. The cam cover mates to the top of the cam seals." Total cost for all cam seals, cover gaskets etc $1762. Any thoughts? Thanks Alan
It sounds like the mechanic is not sure where the leak is "until the valve cover comes off". Not sure if you would want to replace only the cam seals if it was the valve cover gasket that is leaking. I have no idea if the cam seals can be replaced without the valve covers coming off. Hopefully a PRO will step in and advise.

Alan I know it has been a while but is your car a coupe or a spider? I have read that in order to remove valve covers in spiders the roof top must come off??and also that in late spiders you do not need to remove the top? Can someone confirm this?
