I have the similar set on my 575 with straight center pipes. Nice sound at idle. Fine at cruise. Almost outrageous with the right pedal down. So it is great sounding but not insane. Without cats it would be insane or fantastic on how you feel. Remember the exits are behind you not under your ear like side pipes. Idle right past police and in and out of the neighbourhood no problem. It will never be mistaken for a Buick or minivan. Turns heads in a parking lot. Have been asked to idle around the lot a couple of times by people in stores. Keep the originals and switch b back if it's too much for you. GTS Bruce

Agree. My 456M had original catalyzers, Stebro X-pipe and similar rear box delete pipes from Stebro. The car was perfect! No drone And you could really hear that there were twelve cylinders brom behind the car! Beautiful V12 sound on accelleration And deceleration. Try it. I also tested with the original center muffler on, And then the sound at much throttle/high rpm disapperaed. So change both! Great investment.

I think you guys have all been listening to too much loud music through headsets. Those solutions sound awfully loud to me.

But then again, you did not have a 427 Corvette with Hooker headers dumping into factory sidepipes when you were young like I did, so go for it.

I see some mention of Stebro exhausts, but I can't find a website for them. Are they still in business???

I know it's low volume, but $4K for hollow pipes seems really high to me.

4K is approx the price of my two 6-1 headers .... but the work do to and the material is too different!!!!
I could make those pipes for a low, low price ...

I am going to make a set of those muffler delete pipes myself at a fraction of those Tubi ones once I secure a 456M. I saw on here too that someone used Magnaflow round mufflers (Magnapacks) in place of the center resonator. That sounds like a good setup for pure V12 sound and I can allocate any additional funds for exhaust straight to future maintenance.

Somewhere in the archives I saw a claim that the X-pipe actually causes a power loss on these cars rather than a gain. Did anyone actually confirm this?

X-Pipes give less power and torque than straight pipes, well documented in an apples to apples comparison. Compared to the standard center muffler resonator, however, both X-pipes and straight pipes improve hp and torque significantly. The difference between hp and torque for X-pipes and straight pipes is not significant, however, and some owners like the X-pipe sound better. Ferrari went to straight center pipes on the 575M in Fall, 2003.

All exhaust work is basically trial and error until you find a sound you like and your neighbors can tolerate.

When I bought my 456 GTA (1998 OBD II) it had straight pipes in the center, no cats, and Nouvalari rear cans. The sound was terrible, in my opinion, a drone that made lowered imports with fat pipes sound good. This is all personal opinion of course, but I think it was bad because of no cats AND no center muffler. Anyway, I put the factory center muffler back in (and like that sound) but I have a problem - there is something (like a baffle) loose inside of it. I don't really want to replace it with another muffler brand and fit it all up and the replacement cost from FNA is terrible. The retrofitting would be difficult because the GT/GTA uses flanges, where the M doesn't. Anyway, I still think, think, I have the straight pipes. I do not know if they are a "plug-and-play" perfect fit, because I remember that I had to make some mods when I put the factory center muffler back in, and the cats are out with aftermarket pipes ahead of the muffler. I would like to get my hands on a factory center muffler for a GT/GTA - should be an ANSA muffler, Ferrari part # 149883. If you have one you'd like to sell cheap, even if it has a rattle, let me know, because I want to cut one open. I would also trade the center straight pipes I have, ALTHOUGH you may have to modify or get a muffler shop to modify the connections. I also have the factory rear cans (mufflers) as well as the factory headers/cats. Let me know if anyone is interested. I am in South Carolina.
