Hello everyone, I'm trying to build a decent collection... I've currently got a 458 Speciale and an F12 as well on the list for a 488 Spider. Just got word that a scud is up for sale... My question: Is the scud a similar to car to 458 speciale? Or a completely different "must have" experience. I obviously know it is the F1 box vs double clutch... I have never driven a F430 ever... First ferrari was 458. The speciale is my favourite car at the moment. Please help Thanks in advance

Both cars are great (Speciale and Scud) and you will find the Scud driving experience is very different and hard to replicate with another Ferrari. A big factor in that is the Superfast F1 transmission which is a raw kick in the pants (literally). Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Scud is definitely a unique experience unlike any other modern car. I can't see myself ever selling it since there's nothing that can really replace it. Speciale/458/488 are all nice but don't have that raw edginess of the scud.
Think a better fit for you would be a CS.....skip a generation that might be too close to the 458...unless you are determined to get all the special ones.

However, there are about 6 in South Africa! Getting someone to sell theirs is pretty damn difficult. If I manage to get the scud, it will cost me the same as my Speciale cost me brand new. $407k... Car prices here are crazy after import duties. My thoughts exactly, slightly more raw and also more limited.
Have you considered importing a 16M from someplace with a higher number? Japan, Australia, the UK or Hong Kong? At this price point, why not see what's available internationally from reputable dealers? There are at least one for sale in three of the aforementioned countries.
if you can afford a speciale, why not try a scud for a year or two. then move on to a speciale when they've dropped a bit. Either way i'm envious of your problems lol
Do what makes you happy. Not what strangers on the internet advise. Go drive it. You will have your answer. Good luck.
I definitely thought about it.. Problem is that you can only register RHD cars here, so that cuts out quite a bit of the options. Then for example in the UK, the RHD cars command massive prices compared to LHD. So if a car costs 200 000GBP. Then import is roughly 40% of that. With a 14% VAT(sales tax) on the 140%... So becomes unrealistic to afford. Haha I know!! Tough choices. I already have a Speciale and looking to add the Scud This made me laugh!! trying to set up a drive already!! Thank you
Having had the pleasure of owning a 458 Italia, Speciale, Speciale Aperta and a Scud I can attest that driving the Scud is just a "blast". Best sound of all that I mentioned, raw driving experience and plenty fast. The Speciale and SA hold the turns better due to the advanced lateral stability control but I just love driving the Scud. Like others have said " drive one" and see if you feel the same.
There are so many impressive high performance cars, but the Scud has its distinctiveness, its uniqueness in the world of all these super cars. This car provides a unique driving experience! Something like this will never appear for a street legal car in the future. Some like the Scud over all, others not so much. I would never sell mine, never. Every drive with this car is a revelation. You try to build a decent collection? Go for it. Such a car can only go up in value, not like a rocket "through the roof", but decent.
I bought my scud yesterday and drove it all morning today alongside our local ferrari club. All of the others today brought out 458's and Californias and so I compared the car in straight line and winding road performance as well as comfort. In a nutshell, I'm in love. I also have a 360 in manual and a california and have driven many of the newer models including the 458 speciale and f12 tdf on and off the track. Compared to my 360, it's about 5 times better in terms of performance and stability, I feel much more confident driving it hard than I do the 360 which is a little too raw and lacks power (although I still love it for its own qualities). It has no problem keeping up with the 458 other than in long straight lines and is much better than the california on winding roads and the highway. Compared to the speciale, I would say it's much much more raw... Think of it as your speciale when you turn off all the electronics, and the sound is definitely more intoxicating if not numbing. You can easily hear the sound of the scud over the speciale at full throttle. The main upside imho is that it is raw enough to make you on edge but stable enough to keep you on the road. The lack of carpets and insulation makes you feel closer to the car and since mine also doesn't have stereo I really feel engaged without the distracting music. Since the scud lacks the high tech electronics of the newest cars you can easily spin out taking a turn too hard but that's the whole fun of it. I recommend getting it, you won't regret it for sure.
The Scud is a very special experience and nothing like the 458 Speciale.. The rawness is exhilarating. Like most have already said, once you own a Scud, it will be hard to ever get rid of it as nothing Ferrari produces going forward will offer the same visceral feeling. Once I drove one, I became obsessed. Now that I own, I hope I never have to let it go!
Is it AS special as a CS though?? I've had 3 x CS and almost bought a Scud recently but cant pull the trigger as although its been 2 years since my last CS I just cant get over the feeling the Scud wont feel as special once I own it, especially as most who have had both prefer the CS. Has anyone owned both and actually preferred the scud?
