That looks like my namesake Mario Bernardi's "Cavalleria" showroom in Switzerland, circa 2004...

    NOT in Switzerland.
Bernardi is in Hann. Münden, northern Germany. He is a car dealer, not a collector.

Does anyone know if Ralph Lauren has added a LaFerrari to his collection?

Thanks for responding. Does anyone know which cars Ralph Lauren has added to this list, in addition to the Black LaFerrari? I believe I've seen him photographed driving a 360 or 430.

It seems RL sold his D-type at Pebble Beach unless I'm mixing up my numbers.

Dave, the car sold at RM Sotheby's was the '56 Le Mans-winning (Flockhart/Sanderson, Ecurie Ecosse) chassis XKD 501. RL's car is chassis XKD 601.

Thanks El Wayne. Looks like there's a typo in the list above in that case.

Nope, no typo. The list correctly shows RL's car as "#XKD601". You must be reading it wrong for some reason.

I actually copied the list from the beginning of this thread, many years ago.

Agreed. I googled it last night and for whatever reason the first "601" hit I got was the RM car, which as you've stated is in fact 501.
    Thanks for the info.

    RL never owned 2163 GT.
And the 288 GTO was sold in 2003 already.
You may also want to add the F355 Spider, the 360 Spider, the F430 Scuderia, the 16M Spider, the F430 Spider, the 458 Italia, the 599 GTO, etc., several of these have been sold in the past few years, the 599 GTO in February 2011 already.

It's interesting to trace this stuff back and see how misinformation spreads.

In late summer/early fall of 1985, Dan Margulies sold or brokered the sale of 2163 GT. (It had previously belonged to Roy Pearse.) The car went to Italy, but for whatever reason, Stan Nowak was under the mistaken impression that RL was the buyer. Of course, Stan shared this information with fellow enhtusiasts and chassis number archivists, who then jotted it down in their notebooks - where it became "historic fact".

With the emergence of email and the internet over a decade later, this misinformation was widely disseminated and accepted, despite the fact that the car continued to make regular public appearances in Europe, under the names of people who were not RL. In fact, even after all of this time, one can still find online references to RL's supposed ownership of 2163 GT.

Which is bizarre because, as John Barnes told me after the fact, Stan was instrumental in finding the Ferrari portion of the collection for RL.

And that's absolutely true! Stan would even personally inspect the cars for RL. Why he was wrong in this case, I just don't know.

I suppose RL may have shown interest, or Stan may have even made a deal on RL's behalf, told the others RL was buying the car, and then the deal never materialized for whatever reason. Of course, this is purely speculation. Marcel was active at the time and has had personal contact with RL since, so perhaps he knows more.

Interesting. Whereas, many Ferrari enthusiasts seem to have a passion for just the vintage classics, while others may love the modern cars, Ralph Lauren seems to have a real passion for all eras.

This is most probably a rather simple error, a mix up of numbers between 2163 GT (SWB Berlinetta) and 2167 GT (SWB California Spider). RL did purchase the 250 GT SWB California Spider 2167 GT in Italy, from Emilianauto S.p.A., a dealer located at Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna), via Stan Nowak, on 31 July 1985, and paid US$ 220'000 at the time.
That same summer (July 1985) 250 SWB Berlinetta 2163 GT was sold by Nowak's friend Dan Margulies (a Romanian born pioneer car dealer in London) to Stefano Durelli in Padova, Italy.

It wasn't RL's car. It was a friend of mines car, who still has an amazing collection.
