Figured we have enough 355's in Socal with various modifications/setups to start some dyno sessions if anyone is interested. Best way to scientifically measure mods for power is some level of consistency, starting with the dyno, location, and if possible similar ambient temperatures.

If we can all decide on a dyno location and stick with it for testing, that would be good a baseline for making comparisons. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am open to OC or L.A, but prefer O.C because I hate driving an exotic in L.A :).

Doesn't necessarily need to be a dyno day/meet-up. Just a place we can come and go as we please for dyno check-ins. Preferably a place that opens on a Saturday and maybe even late night Saturday for some night testing. Perhaps a small group every now and then to throw down some numbers would be fun too. I'm just interested in finding out what mods do what, so the more data, the better.

At the moment, my car is a good candidate for baseline numbers for a 2.7 car as the only mods it has is an X-OST muffler (very similar to standard Tubi design) and straight pipes. Y-pipe and headers are still stock. If someone has a non-modded 2.7 car ... come through as I would love to see a comparison. I also have a number of basic mods (headers, Y-pipe, GruppeM intake, new muffler.. etc) waiting to go in, so the sooner I do this baseline test, the better.

    Thoughts?

I also I have buddy who has a 2.7 car with Fabspeed headers, stock Y-pipe (but is going to order a Kriessieg Spiral Y-pipe), straight pipes, Capristo muffler, and stock intake. I'm sure I can get him to come and throw down some numbers.

I'm down, as long as it's not crazy expensive. Stock 5.2 that may or may not have test pipes.

Just finished engine out timing belt service so threw mine on a dyno last week for a health check. Unopened 2.7 with fabspeed headers, test pipes, capristo catback 311whp. It did it with near perfect consistency, air fuel ratios were perfect, 3 quick runs and all 3 the power curve was identical. Did a random search on google and the 310 number seems to comes up a lot so guess that's just what they make at the wheels.

With the different header setups out there, it will be interesting to see where the power band is.

I’m curious to see what I would put down..

    - Fresh rebuild (2.7)
    - Tubi headers
    - Capristo test pipes
    - Capristo3 muffler
    - MS Racing Y pipe

I never tested mine with the stock y-pipe but with no cat y-pipe it was 327rwhp 245rwtq.

From there replacing high flow cats with cat delete pipes it made 340rwhp 250rwtq

I wouldn't have guessed it could pick up that much power from replacing those parts

Yes mine was on a Dynojet (which is generally very close to other Dynojets)

Fwiw my previous F355 was a 99 GTS and made 295rwhp 233rwtq on the same dyno.

That’s quite a bit of power pick-up from 200 cell primary cats to straight pipes. I’ve only driven 355’s with primary straight pipes.

I wouldn't be surprised by a 20ish hp gain from a completely de-catted 355 given how high the RPM's are where these cars make max power.

That is why we’re trying to establish a baseline on the same dyno same location and measure mods from there.

Could be more than that if you’re comparing to stock cats instead of 200 cell cats.

When that time comes, we should go at the same time. Put your car on the dyno right after mine and you should see some decent gains.

    My guess:

5 hp for Tubi headers vs OE.

5 hp for Capristo muffler over X-OST muffler

10 hp for MS Racing Y-pipe over stock Y-pipe.

The X factors in these tests are always going to be timing belts and if they were done correctly optimizing power, and possibly status of guide and if they’re causing leaks.

Before you dyno, I would check to see that throttle blades are opening 100% with pedal to the floor. Both of my cars required adjusting the cable to achieve this.

I’ve heard comments here and there over the years euro stock ecu’s are producing more power. Any truth to this?

Wish I was out in Cali to join you guys!

While we are all hypothesizing, I think there is a lot to be gained on the intake on both the 2.7 and especially the 5.2
I mean it's got like a 9ft of narrow, rough tubing tubing per side . Considering the high air velocity at near 9000rpm... It's got to be a big hindrance.
Example, remember the build on here with the large red intake on a 348, labeled 375hp ? That guy claimed 100hp from intake alone.
I know not exactly the same, but my hunch is there
