Has anyone here hardwired a radar detector to their F8 before?
I have a Valentine V1 Gen2 that I really like, and I was looking at using a Blendmount to attach it to the rear view mirror, and then planning on using an add-a-fuse to tap into maybe the driver’s side footwell fuse box and run the power wire up the A pillar and the roof liner.
I figured I’d check if anyone here has done it before and it so, do you know of a switched power wire on the roof itself, or do I really need to go all the way down to the fuse box?

    Thanks!

There should be switched 12v in the windshield attachment for the mirror. Blendmount sells a V1-specific cable with inline fuse and a tap.

Yes, the little taps that can plug into the back of a connector, right?
But there are no connectors on the mirror itself, so do you know where I can plug in?

I was thinking of the "vampire taps" that pinch over a wire... but if you don't know which wire to tap, and you can't get to a handy connector to probe them, that's not a great idea.

Blendmount doesn't have one for the F8 with Valentine 1. I had mine custom made. It works great

I've been looking for a diy for this, unable to find one. Anyone who has done this that could shed some light which wires to tap into? Much easier than running a wire to footwell?

I just use the Valentine Savvy into the OBDII port and run the wire up along the molding of the windshield. Takes about 15 minutes for the install and the Savvy allows you to set the speed for the radar detector to kick in (if you want).

It was easy IMO. I installed the Uniden R8 with a blendmount. The mirror cover comes off and the plug has 12v and ground. I used a multimeter to determine the key on power. Then soldered needles to both wires on the detector power cable and slipped them into the power taps. It took about 30 minutes total.
