One of the greats in my book, he deserves more recognition.

I had the pleasure to talk to him a few times at the Brooklands Reunions, not far from where his garage was.
Tony Brooks was an intelligent but unassuming individual; the antithesis to most of drivers today, I would say.

This was at the Avus "circuit", a silly place to hold a GP, but one that suited Ferrari very well. Some people don't realize that in spite of the front-engined car's shortcomings, Brooks very nearly beat Jack Brabham for the '59 championship.

Rene's first season, and better was yet to come. (I saw him win in a Ferrari in Montreal.)

There is a very good interview with Tony in Motorsports “Ferrari Legends” special edition. Well worth seeking out.
Modest, clever, very talented and a gentleman.

The Watkins Glen pitlane in 1974, United States Grand Prix. Mark Donohue sits in the Penske PC1 talking to a Penske crew member. The Ferrari team cars lurk in the background.

Those two guys in the matching red jackets looking at the Penske . . . . David Hobbs and Pete Lovely?

+1 and the drivers were a dream team. Brilliant design and elegant presentation, thanks for posting.

So have I. At least they matched Surtees' driving suit!

It's remarkable that the Lotus 72 was still winning races in its 5th season, and yet the Lotus 79 was already out of date in its 2nd season.

John Baldwin and Maurice Philippe, both designers of the Parnelli F1 car driven by Mario Andretti, which – like the Penske – had made its debut at the Canadian Grand Prix two weeks earlier.

I thought that the Parnelli was a tidy, promising design. Didn't Mario qualify on pole and then DNS?

Not quite pole, and not quite DNS... he was third on the grid and disqualified on lap 4 for a push start. The car did form the basis for the successful VPJ6 Indy Car, which also introduced the Cosworth V8 to Indy competition.
