O2 sensor location help needed?

Been tripping a P0139 code the last couple drives and he is telling me Bank 1 Sensor 2 when I connect my code reader. I'm assuming it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace this o2 sensor? So a couple question, 1, is this the logical thing to do to initially, and two, which one is bank 1 sensor 2?

 

Bank 1 is where the #1 cylinder is, so behind the passenger seat assuming you have LHD, sensor 2 is the one after the cat and before the exhaust. You can switch the sensors between banks and see if the problem moves banks, that way you will know if its the sensor itself or something else causing the issue.

 

In the absence of other data for the 360 Modena... it sounds logical.

Figures this happens right after I put the bottom panel back on after having it off all winter while I serviced the fluids... :-(

 

Just went out to look in the engine bay and it looks like it's easily gettable right from the top? I have fabspeed cats on my car and this is the closest one to the exhaust manifold.

You can get them from the top easily but you need to pull the airbox out. There are some fasteners under there that hold the wires in place.

That's what I was afraid of that it was one of those ones that's further back and thus now that you say is under the airbox... I'll try to dive into this soon, thanks again for all of your assistance in this. I'm not a mechanic but I love the satisfaction of trying to tackle these things on my own and saving time and money where I can.

 

Just to confirm, I am assuming we are talking about position 17 on this skematic? Looking around on prices, the discrepancies is crazy, eurospares has them for 33 bucks where as ricambi is $200ish?

As Rifledriver pointed out once, the Bosch O2 sensors sold to Ferrari who resells them to their customers "can be" superior to the Bosch O2 sensors sold by Bosch directly to consumers. Sometimes the Bosch ones do not work but the Bosch-Ferrari ones do.

Hence the difference in prices.

 

What? Sorry man, that dog just don't hunt...It's no different than GM putting AC Delco crap in a GM box and reselling it at twice the price. There may be different factories in different countries but I doubt they have different tolerances than what's published in the datasheets. Maybe they sends Ferrari the "prettier" ones.

 

It’s really not that bad. I took care of it on a Sunday afternoon and I made it way harder on myself than I needed to bc I tried to do it with the air box in place. It’s not hard at all.

 

Have you had to install knock sensors into customer's cars ... four times to finally having to buy factory sold knock sensors in factory packaging before the problem go away? How about Porsche rear main seals that only stop leaking after installing a Porsche bought seal replacing the non Porsche branded seals? How about the Bosch branded MAF that throws error codes which go away after the old Ferrari MAF (also Bosch) was put back in. Is there a reason for why a Dayco-Ferrari timing belt for a 360 is 3 times more expensive than a Dayco belt for a Ferrari 360 sold by Dayco? When I have to stand behind the work for things that are really hard to get to: Clutch, RMS, timing belts on expensive cars, water pumps on Ferrari and Porsches, it's factory branded parts or nothing.

O2 sensors that are easy to get to, well, that is not so risky, but there can be a difference. You probably have not seen as many problems with Bosch sensors as I have. But, hey, it's your car, your money. Please do with it what you like, and that is perfectly fine.

In addressing the last few posts would it be safe to assume that what Eurospares is selling is not a ferrari branded item but Ricambi is?

 

Wow man, no offense meant there but at least the Ferrari Dayco belts actually say Ferrari on them, but I have yet to hear any differences in belts other than that, I'd be willing to bet a large chunk of indy shops use the Dayco belts without issue. I think it has a lot more to do with the cars being finicky rather than the parts a lot of times but I've heard and seen just as many issues with horsey box parts as I have with OEM. Prior to me owning my car, they went through 3 different Ferrari branded crank seals before finding one that worked, and also multiple Ferrari banded 02 sensors.

I'm definitely not arguing aftermarket vs. OEM here, there's almost always a difference there...but the only thing I can imagine is that Bosch sends the German-made ones over the Slovak, etc. but I'd be willing to bet the differences are minimal.

Has anyone actually went through the process of analyzing and comparing the Bosch Bosch sensors against the Ferrari Bosch sensors? I'm definitely not doubting your experiences, but there have been many success stories of people using OEM parts rather than factory.

To resurrect this because i have not yet swapped the original O2 sensor discussed I threw another code - P0159 and P1114 yesterday while driving. Can someone confirm this is just the other o2 sensor in the same position on the other side?

 

Yes, but...

If you have the same fault on both sides, it's pointless interchanging the O2 sensors. What does your scanner say P1114 is? It's not on my 360 or F430 code list.

 

It says no description for that particular code...

Thinking I should have just ordered two new ones but I didn't. These codes come sporadically, could it be bc I am running fabspeed cats? For example, it happened one time last summer and now it's happened a couple times. Usually I just clear the codes and see how long it takes for them to trip again. But it most certainly is not happening on every run.

 

I suppose it's possible. There are a few search hits using "Fabspeed" and "O2". Anecdotal evidence, at least.

Thanks! When I get a min to sit and read through things I will. My car is a 99 and doesn't have precats (correct?). I wonder if that's part of the issue from quickly scanning the first link. I have to say for the most part this is sporadic at best, I can go months without throwing the code and then I'll check them, clear and go weeks or months with nothing. Had the car for over 6 years now... I just want to know if it's bad o2 sensors or just life with fabspeed cats (now so it seems).

 

The 360 stock cat converter is designed to have two sections of cat material and the rear O2 sensor sits in the middle of the two sections. How is the fab speed cat converter different?
