My 08 F430 since I bought it (2021) has had a reoccurring malfunction. It has the stock unit (Ferrari logo on the face when turned on) AM/FM CD player, and sometimes the volume will not work when the unit is on. The unit plays CD's as I can see the counter running etc. But again, no volume. This is intermittent. The unit will work fine sometimes and then nothing. When the volume isn't working this affects both the radio and CD player.

Wondering what brands others recommend (and prices). I would like to keep my car stock so am curious as to a stock replacement's price as well.

    thanks
    Mike

The price in the uk has gone down to £100 , you can get an uprated version with DAB for £137 . To get the ferrari radio out, you need to remove part of the front to get 1 of the 2 release keys in. Apart from that its a 5 min job and no cutting wires etc.

This is a direct swap as well:
    VDO Continental TR7412UB-OR... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08D2R48HZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Looks period correct and has Bluetooth. I ended up swapping it for this:
JOYING Android 10 Radio 6.2 Inch Display Single-Din in-Dash GPS Navigation FM Radio with Knob Physical Buttons Support Android Auto, Bluetooth Hands-Free, Backup Camera,AUX-in,5G WiFi https://a.co/d/6X5lyGc

More work required for this one, but the harness scuderiaaudio sells and some connectors and you’re good to go. I’m getting ready to add a backup camera and the addition of CarPlay for Waze, etc. is beneficial. Not switches or vents blocked with the 6.2” screen.

Does your car have the factory hi-fi option? That is, does it have the speaker box behind the seats with the two speakers? If so then there is a good chance that it's not your radio.

Actually I have 4 speakers in my rear bulkhead behind the seats and my car has the Bose amplifier option.

It could be the amplifier going out.

I think the F430 needs a full strip out and start again, if you want any modern levels of sound quality. My car came with the factory Sat Nav head unit, amp and Subs between the seats. I have replaced the The door speakers, I have an upgraded to a Kenwood Alexa head unit, I have bought the Sub replacement speakers, and its still shocking. Its the base Sub unit that's the problem, it just vibrates and resonates terribly when you add any decent volume to it (I have put pillow foam and sound matt material in the box to no avail) and if you turn the base down it just sounds all tinny!

Good chance that's not the headunit - the intermittent nature makes me suspect other parts of your system

So I went out last night and turned on the system and it was working fine. Very frustrating. Last year my mechanic pulled the head unit and checked all connections. He did find loose antenna connections and once corrected the radio finally picked up stations. As mentioned, it may not be the head unit. I don't want to throw parts at it, more diagnostics needed. The dealer I bought this from had all the sticky switches fixed. I suspect the head unit was pulled during this and maybe not correctly reinstalled. I tried contacting a previous owner to ask about the vol. issue but no luck.

Was hoping another F430 owner has had a similar problem and could point me in the right direction.

There are not many Bose systems out there. I have had only two Bose inquiries in 14 years. The non Bose amplifier are notorious for burning out.

I have this system and will be tearing out the guts in the next year or so. I don't have the issues you're describing, but what you are describing does sound like an amp going bad and not the head unit. For what it's worth, mine has a bad ground somewhere (alternator whine) so maybe start by checking your ground points to the amp? My left channel also cuts out intermittently. I have an aftermarket head unit that's new so it's not that. Leads me to believe my amp is not destined to be in the world much longer.

hey quick question -- I ordered this based off your note here -- looking forward to it arriving -- do I need any sort of connectors / adapters or do I just plug in the harness from the Ferrari into the back of the Blaupunkt? I only have a couple days when it arrives before I leave for a roadtrip so just want to make sure I order anything else I might need ahead of time.

Plug and play. You may just need a antenna adapter which came with mine. Also available from amazon etc for a few bucks. Something like

Funnily enough when I bought my 360 the owner's manual for the Continental came with the documentation/service records for the car but no other signs of that radio anywhere. That said I've been thinking about getting a cheap period correct looking single DIN head unit to take care of some sticky radio knobs and get a slightly less jank bluetooth set up than what I have now with the factory unit. How well does the integrated mic work. Would it be worthless on a car with an exhaust on the louder side?

I had the continental in my E30. From my personal experience...

If you want a retro looking unit, this is probably your best value but I feel like they cheaped out a bit. There is one with a CD player that I think looks better though. Otherwise, the look is spot on, it's easy to install and set up but a few things keep it from being a great little unit.
    1. The bluetooth connection doesn't display any information at all, it's just a simple audio link
    2. The antenna power is constant and not only when the radio is on. Usually doesn't matter unless you have a power antenna, in which case it won't go down until you turn your car off. Kind of annoying. I had to cut this lead to keep the antenna down since I don't listen to FM often, but will have a worse signal when I do unfortunately.
    3. The orange display is very washed out and only looks orange in complete darkness.
    4. The buttons have a cheap feel to them, but consistent with the price point.

Never had an issue with the integrated mic. I wouldn’t try carrying on a conversation with the windows down, but with the windows up I didn’t have any issues with people hearing me. YMMV.
