Pics of my tow eye mount, tow eye and the way mine doesn't fit. The part clearly needs to be about 2-3" longer IMHO.

I can screw it in about 1 turn, then it hits the bodywork.

The blue tape in the pics is my attempt to protect the paint, but I realized that there was no way this was going to work.

I emailed Daniel at Ricambi to see if this hook was right for my car, for $29, that would be a great deal:

I will let you guys know what he says.

As I stated in my other post on this subject, I only want to have this in case I need an emergency pull out of a bad situation.

The professional flat tow operators have soft straps to secure to the frame in the front to allow them to pull the car onto the flat bed.

Last pic is my Mondi hooked up with soft straps, there is no way they can hit anything, but the operator still put a piece of wood ahead of the straps to lower them even more and used 2x8's under the front wheels when loading.

Yes, I read both those threads and my post is the last one in the "flat bedding" thread.

I think you are right about "deviations," but the common theme is that many of the tow hooks supplied with our cars do not work for their intended purpose.

Mine is exactly the same and exactly as useless. Goes in just a few threads and then hits bodywork. We used straps to put my car on the flatbed last time. :)

I tried to make an extension to allow our tow eyes to work but gave up when I couldn't find a local shop to do it for me a reasonable price.

Also, a longer tow eye is going to bend easier than a short one, but since the original won't work the only choice is to go about 2" longer or make one that is only about 3 1/4" overall to fit behind the bumper. Damage to the grill or bumper can result with this rig if you are not careful when you pull.

Looks like Unobtanium might pick up the torch on this:
