This is probably best so to not get lost in the other thread. Eric H. has mentioned an alternative to the straight and boring drive down I-5 to Portland. We should meet in the Southcenter Nordstrom parking area around 8am. I hope Eric's agreeable to this idea.
Willis, Jackson and I are going down the boring route and we'll see you at Ron Tonkin -drive safe...;-) Albert
Meeting time's confirmed. 8am tomorrow at the Southcenter Nordstrom's parking lot. See you all there!
FANTASTIC drive and Tonkin Tour today! Thanks very much Eric H. for mapping out the "farm country" drive off of I-5, it was the best drive I've had in the Boxer so far. Ended up driving 377 miles round trip on about one tank of gas (33 gallons) today. Sorry, we ended up heading out a different direction and missed you guys on the return trip home.
Gary, Eric H. did a great job with the route this morning. You guys were gone while I was talking to Jackson. Ray Pirtle decided to move the dinner time up a couple of hours so we decided to stay and eat. Jim Clark was the guest of honor and presented his 166 Spyder Corsa slides with a couple of updated pictures. He also passed around a broken piston and sleeve from the 166, a couple of valves, and a couple of trophies. The car should be back here locally very soon. I didn't win anything in the raffle, but Andrew predicted his number would be called and did (that lucky.....). Pulled into my garage at about 9:35PM. Easy cruising.
Need to sort my pictures first. Posting tomorrow. Favorite cars: Miura SV and 288GTO Most surprising car in the collection: Pontiac Fiero GT
I think the most surprising car was the Alfetta, with the mint X1/9 and the Fiero as close seconds. I bet that's the best Alfetta in the world! Fun event, I got there early so it was my blue 456 that was right in front of the door. Ironically, the first time I went to his garage (several years ago), it was on a day the Fiero club was visiting.
Don't forget to mention the nice alpine white mazda miata. Where'd you go when we got on the freeway?
I got cut off once we got on I-5. Saw you guys change lanes a couple of times up ahead but soon lost track. That's OK. I was going for a easy cruise home.
How was the weather?? Any photo?? Saw John H here in Windy City yesterday. He went to Bentley dealer after the meeting.
Weather was great. Driving down through rural roads and small towns was a lot of fun. Pictures in another thread.
