That's a tough one. I think they only thing that might even somewhat sound like an F1 car is the S2000.
The closest to F1 sound is probably the Honda S2000. While the 350Z and G35 do sound amazing, they don't sound like F1 cars. I'm sure, my brother owns one. -Cyrus
I give my vote for either the Z32TT (300ZX TT's from '90-'96 in the US) or the MKIV Supra TT's ('93.5-'98 & especially with cams). Neither really sound like an F1 car per-se, but both have, IMHO, very good sounding & almost exotic-car-quality exhaust notes. Not to mention both cars are still pretty good looking after all this time. Best bet for an F1 sound in a relatively inexpensive car would be maybe a Radical or something along that line which uses a superbike engine.
G35?? hmm, i always thought those sounded horrible. i don't see any F1 sound resemblance at all, imo. my vote is for a boxster (used to get under your $30k number!) w/ the GHL exhaust. that car/exhaust combo SCREAMS.
I like what I've heard of the 350Z/G35. In fact, if anyone has a sound clip or video I'd like to hear more. While I don't really like the E46 M3's exhaust note, it does sound very racecar-ish. Most aftermarket M5 exhausts sound good too. I'd have to go with the NSX for that exotic sound though, I really sounds good stock or modified. Then there's always the V8 32-valve DOHC Ford Taurus with no exhaust. http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/images/hellgate.mpg
yup, hands down 350Z and G35. I just love that deep "trumpety" sound. here are some clips with aftermarket exhausts, G35 http://www.ducatiguy.com/MVI_6262.AVI http://www.ducatiguy.com/MVI_6272.AVI http://www.ducatiguy.com/MVI_6273.AVI http://www.ducatiguy.com/MVI_8031.AVI http://www.ducatiguy.com/MVI_8043.AVI http://www.ducatiguy.com/injen1.mpg great video below http://www.197358246.com/%7Ehavoc/StockvsBorlaLarge.wmv http://maherauf.home.comcast.net/g35/nismocai/clips/dby6.avi 350Z a page with sound clips http://www.everything350z.com/exhaust.html http://www.aj-racing.com/images/Project/AJR350/AmuseR1on350Z.MPG http://www.boomplustoys.net/Fujitsubo/media/fujitsubo_z33.MPG http://www.sfzcc.com/Fujitsubolr.wmv http://www.my350z.com/albums/albun48/adg.mpg http://www.my350z.com/albums/albun48/acx.avi http://www.my350z.com/albums/albun48/acy.avi http://www.my350z.com/albums/albun48/acz.avi http://www.zfilms.org/SportZMag/DynoDay2003/350Z-NismoExhaust.mpeg http://www.geocities.com/projectxracing2002/MOV02059.MPG http://www.geocities.com/projectxracing2002/MOV02059.MPG great video below...sounds like the new E60 m5 http://home.comcast.net/~vballdallas1/350run.mpg hope you enjoy those!
i think they all sound nothing like f1 even 36s and 355s dont sound like f1 i have straight pipes and a tubi and still does not sound like f1 and it will never sound even close to a f1 car. tubi ,capristo sound amazing and i love the sound without cats a lot but f1 they are not so as far as a nismo 350z you would have to be smokin crack if you think that sound is close to f1 or a ferrari 360-355
the title of the the thread is "Best "exotic" sounding non F-car under $30k... " obviously the Z and G35 sound nothing like a Ferrari.
Best sounding exotic under 30k; 928 with an rmb Only street car to sound like F1; carrera gt best sounding ferrari; dan's departed 360 closest sound to F1 on the streets; jap sport bikes with aftermarket exhausts AWESOME sound T
In my opinion, best sounding w/ aftermarket exhaust would be an RX7, you just have to hear the sound of a rotory at full throttle, its incredible.
Thats easy, NSX with a comptech exhaust.... Look hard and you can find an early one for 30K.... Blows ever other car away in this category in terms of looks as well.....
Yay! Glad to hear someone else besides me who actually likes the sound of a 2-rotor ...especially a fully bridge ported or peripheral ported one scraming at 12k rpm. They're not exactly what I personally would consider "exotic" sounding, but have a very unique exhaust note. Now if you're talking about a 3-rotor then yeah they do sound very exotic with a near V12 howl (seeing 2 3-rotor FD's screaming down the front straight of Summit Point a few years back was unreal)...then if you get into 4-rotors they're otherworldly, but they're totally custom made and will probably run $30k for the motor alone I would guess.
My little 4 banger DOHC Lotus TC engine with an aftermarket exhaust sounds great. It has less complexity than a 12 for sure, but it combines the 308 rumble at low RPM's with a nice whine starting at 5k RPMs. The fact it has a chain adds to the effect I'm sure. If it was an 8 you'd swear it was a 12 I bet. I wouldn't say it sounds like an F1 car; it doesn't. But you know it's no ricer with a coffee can exhaust too when you hear it but don't see it. Ken
I definitely vote for the S2000. I have several videos of them, including one with a wide-open exhaust (ie straight pipes), but it is over 5 MB, and I have no where to post it.
I can't believe nobody's mentioned Alfa Romeo's. Especially they 6-cyl engines, but even the little 4-banger on the spider. Sound beautiful. Dom
