I met a younger guy while out in Monterey last week (which, by the way was un-friggin' believable!) who passed this info on to me... might be cool. Here is a paste from the e-mail....

....You said you wanted me to drop you a line should I
here about any interesting local events, well, here is one you should
definitely check out: The Wilmette Auto Show. It was started about 6
years ago, and has gone on ever since, save for last year when it was
apparently not held. Anyhow, the show is fairly small, expect only
about 40-50 cars to show up, but it is by far one of the best events
in Chicago. As I remember it (I have not gone since I have started
going to Emory since I am in school when the show happens), there is a
common theme, to which a large magority of the cars subscribe, be it
mini-cars, sports cars, limos, you get the idea. Plenty of cars
unrelated to the theme show up, but overall the selection is top
notch. During the 3 years I say the show, cars that found their way
to this tiny venue included a 1913 Mercer Raceabout Type 35J (the
preeminent preWWI sports car, now valued at around $1 million), a 1962
Aston Martin DB4/2 Bertone Arnult Roadster, similar to the one that
was at the Pebble Beach Concours, a Messershimdt Tiger (the most rare
and expensive mini car, nick named Cindarella's Coffin, selling for
around $45K), and a 1938 BMW 328. The show never ceased to amaze me,
and it is right in Wilmette, on Ridge Road, across from the Police
Station, at the Wilmette Historical Museum. Here is the official
    beef:

After a one-year hiatus, our very popular rare and vintage auto show will resume this fall. Plan to be amazed at the array of spectacular cars that will be on display on the Museum grounds. It's an event that your whole family will enjoy.
