Saddle River, Alpine, Bernardsville, Basking Ridge and Colts Neck, those are rich towns. Mount Laurel, I don't know. Where is Mount Laurel?
I'm gonna blatantly steal that line, if you don't mind. About 15 years ago, I saw a poster a teacher was making for his school. It featured an estate garage, containing a Lambo, several Ferraris, a Roller, a Benz, etc. The caption read "Incentive for Higher Education"
Back in the 80s when I was in school, i use to see beat up old cars that had bumper sticker that said "My other car is a Ferrari" Then I saw this 308GTS that had a bumper sticker that said "This is my other car" Cool or what?
In 2000, I drove onto Palm Beach Island following a Bentley Azure, the license plate frame said: "My other car doesn't matter." Same trip, a RR had a "Fnck the Poor!" bumper sticker.
coming to this party late, makes my stories seem a bit weak now...but anyway... in a conversation, which i now regret, the subject of madonna came up, and i let out that she was my neighbor. this was not technically true since her house was not directly next to mine, and about 100 yards down the road, but it made for a good line....she has moved so cant use that one anymore... another time at a school reunion, (you know where you have to show that you've made it), the time to pay came up, and everybody tossed their credit cards onto the bill, so i threw the black card out, and the woman next to me asked me what it was and i had to explain....it felt good for about 10 seconds, and then i felt like a heel..... another line that i did not think was over the top until my wife told me to stop saying it, was when i told people how we bought the place in newport sight-unseen on the internet....i just thought it was a good hi-tech story.
LMAO...! i know who you're talking about... i'll see if i can find out if it's true or not... If so, that's damn funny...
I like that scene from "Payback" with Mel Gibson. "$140,000" "It's not 140, it's 70" "$70,000......My shoes cost more than that!"
i have a friend with whom i spoke about this thread... He told me a story that went like this... "This took place about ten years ago... I have a really close friend from Bahrain... He's from one of the most influential/wealthy families there... He never carries money and is very low key... When I went to see him, he drove a Ford Thunderbird... Anyways, he drives up anywhere and just quietly says his family's last name... All barriers are immediately lifted and the guards just say "faddal" which means welcome and in we go... No bill is ever presented... And sometimes the person in charge comes over and asks if it's ok for so and so to sit at a table nearby... He usually says yes but he always takes his time as if he is thinking about it very carefully... I found it a bit haughty, but it was very impressive..." Kinda says something about the kind of wealth you have without ever mentioning anything about wealth...
Yup... as you can probably see there are MANY trees here on the mountain that can be used for the firepalces. i enjoy splitting wood and use the machine a lot. Why risk cheap oil when something decent is a few bucks more?
Peter asked Meg and I if we wanted to watch the MC GP. We said sure so he sent the Jet which was met by the Helicopter, which was met by the Launch which took us to the Yacht. There was a group of about 12 of us including 2 Miss Sweden's and a Crowned Prince. Every night we went to a different restaruant/nightclub. As we were climbing into the limo's one night the Captain mentioned to Peter that one of the night clubs didn't allow jeans which I was wearing. We pulled up. There was a huge line. Peter walked up and ushered us inside. My jeans weren't a problem. There was an empty table awaiting us set for 12 with 12 bottles of Crystal and about a lb of caviar. A few nights later I insisted on picking the restaurant. We drove up into the hills to Le Relais which is owned by a friend of mine who I told not to present a bill but to charge it to me. When the dinner was over Peter asked for the check and was told it was taken care of. He later told me that was the only time in his entire life that someone else had picked up the check for a meal he ate.
