A 3.8 litre, 840 hp bi-turbo Porsche GT3 with 9ff upgrades has reached exactly 388 km/h at the Nardo oval track, beating McLaren F1 at 386,7 km/h. Owner of the 9ff firm, Jan Fatthauer said they will soon aim for the 400 km/h dream barrier by further reducing the car's current 1300 kilos weight.

I agree. i still think the McClaren F1 is the ultimate road going car, considering what it has achieved, how long ago it was built, driving position etc and for just being exotic.

Call me crazy but I'm not a big Mclaren fan. Ya sure it's the fastest and whatever but it just doesnt do anything for me like an Fcar does. and i feel the same way with all the modifies Porsches and Lamborghinis that are just made to go fast. The Enzo "only" does 218 but can run circles around most of the cars on the track, with maybe the exception of an F1. Instead of Spending all that money on a car that can go 400 kmh make that can turn and stop just as well, and then bring the speed to the race track.

not a lot of circles run around the carrera gt by the enzo on the track. some tracks have the enzo winning (barely) and some tracks have the cgt winning (barely).

Well, the McLaren was and still is a great race car. It is superbly balanced, has tremendous downforce, and obvious acceleration and top speed. And it was a stock, unmodified McLaren that set the record, that's why it's the record still. I could put a jet engine on the back of my Altima and beat the McLaren, but I wouldn't run around saying I owned the record for production vehicles without expecting some quaint remarks.

Same here. I like the car but there are so many cars that i would pick over an F1 .

    Enzo , F50 , F40 , CGT . Not even mentioning vintages cars..

I heard the Enzo can easily beat the Mclaren f1 if it diden't have it's ac,cruise control or any of that other minor little stuff that adds weight to the car.

Just over 241 MPH, but there website says they went 243 mph ( it also says they went 388 kph). I guess they can build supercars, but they can't do simple math.

How will weight reduction help top speed? The limiting factors here are wind resistance and horsepower.

I guess they used weren't too accurate with the conversion of units.

1 mile = 1.609344 kilometre (according to google)

They probably truncated the accuracy down to 1 decimal place and did
    1 mile = 1.6 kilometre and hence 388/1.6 = 242.5mph and then rounded it up to 243mph.

    Cruise control on an Enzo????

If you took the wheels off and removed the engine it would be even lighter.

Yes. Many people think that because XP5 did the run, the car was just a prototype and a road car could not do it. Thats not true. XP5 was road spec. The only differences is that it had its underbody polished, rev limiter removed and different tyre pressures.

9ff hasn't accomplished anything that is extraordinary.

In fact, back in 1989 John Lingenfelter hit 254.76mph (407.616 Km/h) in the Sledgehammer Corvette which was created by Callaway. They broke the 400Km/h barrier 15years ago. They did this record run with only 880hp and 1589kg weight.

He also did it again at 255 or 257 with a TT C5 vette about 2 years before he died. This stuff is old news when you do just a bit of searching around. North Americian cars have accomplished a whole wack of struff the Europe hasen't even tried.
