    Hello fellows.

I just bought a 1999, 550 Maranello with 1400 miles on the clock. I am thinking to change the oil myself. The shell 5W-40 is not available to the public. There are Amsoil 5W-40 and Redline 5W-40 and also Mobil 0W-40 for european cars. I call around, they recommend Mobil 15W-50. I think it is not the right grade. What do you recommend.

    Thanks.

If you use Mobil make sure it is Mobil One. Redline has a very good product, as well. 0-50 is really good.

I use the Redline in customer cars and my own. You are right with the cold oil pressures that late model Ferrari's run I would stay away from the 15/50.

What type of oil comes in the car from the factory?

Helix at $22.00/quart.....$5-600 job at the dealer.

Mobil 1 is $3.99 per and just as good. Any independant mechanic will do it for $100.00 or so with the oil. The filters are $80.00.

    Don't buy into the BS.

The 575 Maranello comes with Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 from the factory. They recommend 0W-40 for around town and 5W-40 for racing. I use 0W-20 Mobil 1.

    Wow. You're getting HOSED.

My dealer charges me $12.45 a quart. Still a lot, but not usurious.
