So while in Monterey I fire up my car and another good friend fires his up shortly thereafter. His TUBI is much deeper and audibly louder.

    Any insight?

    My Car:

    00 F-1 360
    10K Miles

    His Car:

    99 6 Speed 360
    12K Miles

Rule out no cats (both cars have cats and pre-cats)
Rule out intake work (both cars have stock set up.)

What I have heard is that TUBI gets louder with age ???? Mine isn't nearly as throaty and deep as his. I want his sound !!!!

Mario, you made a *huge* mistake. You got the car with the wrong transmission. Everyone knows manual is louder! DUH! :D ;)

How long have you had your tubi and he had his? They do "grow" a bit with age. Also, no two cars will ever sound the same.

BTW - what month build is your car that it has pre-cats?

ive had 2 tubi's in my 360 ever since i got it.
    both tubis had different sounds.
the most recent one was SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the older one.
    something to think about.

Tubi makes different exhausts for the 360, did you notice a difference in the size of the cannister? The smaller ones are louder.

[Edit: Assuming the Tubis are the same in size/model/etc...]
I know as a fact there is a difference between pre-2000 F-cars and post-2000 F-cars. It is a difference that, from my understanding from several threads on this forum, is significant enough to noticeably impact performance (for the worse for post-2000). I tried searching for you, but wasn't able to find the thread I had in mind (that detailed the differences). Regardless, here is a thread that briefly mentions it. I believe that a difference in headers or cats or whatever could lead to differences in exhaust sound.

Funny that you say that I had the same experience years ago when I played around with 5.0 Mustangs. Every stick car was louder for some reason than the auto trans cars. Same setup . mufflers, etc. Weird I guess.

Dan - I like the video game (gary tdf360 calls it that - what does he know - he doesn't own a Ferrari anymore :) ) an F-1 delivers. I don't have any info on how old the two TUBI's are...

larryg - I took a look at both exhausts and the cannister looks exact !!!

elsupremo - thanks for the link..i'll check it out.

Seems like there really is no rhyme or reason ????

Aren't Tubi's hand made? If so that might explain variations between systems.

    David is correct.

1999 360's did not have pre-cats in the exhaust manifolds -- they were noticebaly louder than subsequent MY 360's. Also, just for the record, the '99 car did not have the air injection pump either. ;)

Dont know about the difference in the Tubi for the 360 but on my 99 360 I have had two different Capristo Level 2 exhausts and they was a very noticable difference in sound from each. Must be the handmade nature of both products Good Luck

That is definitely the reason why.

Tubi makes three versions -- loud, louder, and NGT versions (all cat-back). I have tried them all and like the NGT. It is the loudest but not raucous. It is also much lighter than the other two. Also, the NGT tips extend further than the "standard" tips which is helpful as to the nasty drippings from the pipes -- they drippings fall to the ground rather than drip onto the bumper.
