Yes, there are a couple of "poles" bent over. I'm not sure the left side are trees though. The greenery goes all the way to the ground, so it seems more like hedge/shrub.

 

Is anyone really feeling anything for this poor guy's family?
OK, the car is an Enzo, but it is just a car, albeit £500,000 worth.

This reminds me of the poor chap that killed himself in his McLaren F1 in Essex a couple of years ago.

All of the forums were full of the ghouls analising every detail of the damage to the car, but very little thought to the guy's family.

Life is short. Treasure it.

A car is a car, and can be replaced.

I am as I'm sure most other are. Please post information on the driver and family if you have it.

It is not uncommon to want to analyze an accident. We do it here for autos and on other boards we do it for aircraft. It isn't at the lack of consideration for the loss of a loved one, but for a better understanding as to how something this tragic could happen.......... So maybe it will not happen again.

 

Wow. I wonder if Ferrari has looked at these. It looks like the cockpit needs more reinforcement to protect the driver better, more like the carbon fiber tubs the race drivers are protected within.

I do feel genuinely sorry for the guy's family, but no more so than anyone else I hear about dying. Just my opinion, but this is two events.

1) Someone got killed in a high-speed traffic accident. Happens all the time. Since it is so common, unless you have a personal affiliation with the victim you say a quick prayer for the person and their family, make note to be more careful yourself, and move on. It's not uncaring, just the way life goes.

2) An Enzo crashed in a high-speed traffic accident. Happens extremely rarely. Naturally the boards related to these cars are going to be active with people trying to find out information.

The fact that someone died (unless there are macabre details or pictures like the 355 incident), while sad, is frequent enough that it just doesn't register on people's interest. The fact that an Enzo was involved is what piqued the board's collective interest, so naturally that is what is going to be discussed most.

Now if it would have been a board member it would have been a completely different story. If you remember Ben's fatal crash a few months ago, there was way more discussion about his life than there was about the circumstances surrounding his death. There was a personal connection with the individual. As far as we know, that isn't the case here.

Listen moron, the person lost their life.... That is no way to speak about the person... if you had an enzo i doubt you would do the speed limit either.... Its too bad he had to learn his lesson the way he did, but no one else was hurt, although it could have been different.

If I remember correctly the 330(332)kmh was achieved on the stretch approaching the Cannonball Run memorial when we came back from Uluru.

Hmmm...so a guy driving at three times the legal limit on a two lane public road is beyond criticism? If he had hit another car, much less one containing a family with small children, I doubt he would be given so much leeway.

Roll cage? Added danger is all you would get with a roll cage unless you also wear a full face race helmet, racing seat harnesses and a HANS device. A bullet-proof airbag might come in handy too. I still doubt you would survive a high speed head-on. The car is built to reach outrageous speeds in the proper environment but no car is built to crash at those same speeds. The same can be said for F16s.

As for Australians having their means of defense taken away from them; I tend to agree after reading some of the comments here. Some people simply can't handle the responsibility that comes with owning potentially dangerous inanimate objects, be they weapons or fast cars.

Did you sign up just to question the fact it was an Enzo? The Enzo uses tall tires, but on a complete car they look well proportioned.

In regards to the gun topic. If we didn't have guns to supply the thugs and morons, there wouldn't be a need to protect ourselves from them. I have been shot at on the freeway, and even with bullet holes in the damaged parts to remind me, still don't find a need to own a gun.

I don't know the guy, or his family, nor probably anyone who is remotely impacted. It's horrible that he's dead, but only in an abstract and academic way. I certainly don't feel sorrow or anguish about it.

People die all the time, everywhere. There's too much horror going on in the world on a regular basis to be able to react to it all. 6 million dead in some backwater country due to pride or religion or famine, 20,000 dead in some other place due to earthquakes or tsunami or avalanche, 1 dead in an Enzo due to self-Darwinism. It's all the same, really.

Would you all be reacting the same if he had 28 tickets in 3 years and took out 2 people in a minivan when he went? What's the distinction?

To me, the fact that the car disintegrated is of more interest, because there's 398 more of these things out there, with 398+ other drivers, and maybe they are in more danger than they think.
