I'm using my dell inspiron 8200 purchased in mid 2002 and various older machines and use linux as often as possible (using fedora) I also like building my machines when I buy new ones (desktops) something that you can't really do with an apple. I do use apple's owned by friends a good deal and like it just fine in fact next time I buy a laptop I may pickup a powerbook. Or not I'm content with linux

    Awesome. :D

I would get one this moment but I really don't think I'd be able to use it for what I most need it for. Good choice!

I am so getting a MacBook Pro. My dad went to the Mac World Expo, and I watched the presentation when I got home from school. Once all the software is converted perfectly from the PowerPC to the Intel chip, it will kick even more but. Can't believe it is 4 times faster than the old Powerbooks.

Arn't you glad you waited???? :D Good luck with your new computer when it is finally shipped (good choice on the higher model)

Don't worry you'll buy the macbook and within 1yr or less it will be outdated. :)

Actually the power increase along with the ability to run both osx and windows has me very interested in buying a mac now I may be picking my first one up soon.. that macbook looks good!

I only wished MacBook Pro had updated look, or option on outside colors like Sony Vaio offers. It looks just like PB G4 I have... However it didn't stop me from ordering a MB.

I've had a Powerbook for a few years now and love it. The latch system that keeps the book closed didn't seem to be well engineered though. I had a problem w/ mine and from what I understand so did a lot of other people. I'm going to pick up one of the new intel based powerbooks when they start shipping next month.

    Regards,
    Chris

I have all three sizes (in various locations), but like the 15" the most. The 12" is missing the PCA slot, so I cannot go wireless on line while travelling, and the 17" is too big to be really mobile.

However, we had a batch of problematic 15"ers. That has never happened before.

We must have bought at least a hundred Apples for the office and home over the last decade. We always like to have the latest set-up (the 30" screens are just incredible), and we will never have anything else. We have almost zero downtime, zero spyware and virusses, and and our IT specialist comes in maybe once a month.

That being said, I find that, by Apple trying to make their stuff fool-proof, they make it too complicated.

Don't you have an Airport Extreme card for your 12"? I put one in mine - you had to take out the battery and the slot was tucked away inside. Maybe I got a later model, but I thought I got it fairly soon after the 12" came out.

I just got a 17" last Monday, and I love it. It's more to handle when packing into a carrying case, but considering I'm often carrying 10-20lbs of books along with the computer, it didn't make as much difference. That, and it was $350 less than a 15" MacBook... I just couldn't wait another month to get a laptop for work and class.

They warned me at the store about compatibility issues with the MacBook for the first while - and my friends said wait at least until May for the "Pro" compatible models (they said that Final Cut Pro, etc wouldn't run right on this first set). I put 1.5GB of RAM in the 17", that should take care of me for a few years.

    Ryan,

Yes, I'm working with the Airport at home, in the office and even at the airport. Outside that I use a mobile phone connection card.

You may actually get more than you bargained for ;)

February 14, 2006 - 10:19 EST Apple this week will begin shipping its new 15-inch MacBook Pro notebook computer featuring the new Intel Core Duo processor which the company says delivers up to four times the performance of the PowerBook G4, a built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing on-the-go and the Front Row media experience with Apple Remote. All models of the new MacBook Pro will ship with faster Intel Core Duo processors than previously announced, delivering even greater performance at no additional cost. The US$2,499 model now includes a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.83 GHz, and will begin shipping this week. The $1,999 model now includes a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.67 GHz, and will begin shipping next week. In addition, customers may now upgrade to a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor as a build-to-order option on the Apple Online Store.

Yeah, I got an e-mail from Apple today, that my order will be shipped by 2/28, and it is upgraded to 2.0Ghz from 1.83Ghz w/out additional cost. I just figured 1.83Ghz model was replaced w/ 2.0Ghz, and they have 2.16GHz model now.

You, who ordered on line previously for MacBook Pro, are getting the same deal, right?
