Those all may be deadly and addictive, but I think a bigger problem is FAT america and our fast food craze. Its very addictive and out of control and kills people in forms of heart disease/diabetes etc. everyday.

To answer the posters question in my opinion...i would have to say that if Tony Montana was around today he'd be selling cheeseburgers like Ray Crock!

Seems every rural county in America has sprouted a plethora of meth labs.

But the most popular drug has to be caffiene. I went cold turkey by accident 15 years ago; didn't even know I was addicted because I never drank coffee. But when I switched from Mountain Dew to Sprite, I had horrible withdrawal and didn't even know why. I'll NEVER go back.

Yes, I know NOW that MD is highly caffienated. Oops!

Been away a while, but last time I looked marijuana was the #1 cash crop in over 30 states. I'd be surprised if that's not still true.

    Legal drugs:

As far as prescription drugs in the US I believe it is still Lipitor, patent expiration not withstanding.

Worldwide I believe it is Hydrochlorithiazide but I cannot confirm that.

    Meth.
Easily the most destructive drug, and now used at epidemic proportions. Youth in rural counties (like mine) suffer big for this drug as (PeteS correctly pointed out) the labs are concentrated in areas of small population and usually only discovered when they blow up.

According to my sister’s husband who is the CEO of a major US drug & alcohol treatment center, GHB has been a popular drug of abuse lately. Also, it’s also hard to beat the original drugs of choice for 100s of years derived from the opium poppy.

Crack cocaine has been the leader in prodominately black, low income communities. Its cheap, and the high is very intense. VERY addictive. Very destructive to black communities.

Meth is the low income white drug. Small white towns accross the nation are full of meth labs. Very cheap, made from mostly OTC drugs (however these drugs have recently been banned.

Mariguana is probably still the most popular illegal drug. Cocaine is still huge in wealthier white communities. Exctasy is getting bigger and is very popular accross the world.

Lets not forget, tobacco kills plenty, alcohol prob kills more, caffeine is everywhere, perscription drugs are everywhere, so much drug use in America.

I would say coca is the drug of choice in every place I have ever visit in the U.S. and in Puerto Rico, I mentioned the island because there we have ATF, FBI, DEA and it shows how little can they do to fight it. While I was working over there cocaine was used from the poor to the very wealthy, its the drug of choice and the girls love it, on some occasions I saw 13 year old girls doing it. I'm not taking into account pot because is far to mild to cause any crime among users, also becasue its natural, it feels good, relaxes and it wont cause an overdose.

Valium is old news. Now it's Xanax (Alprazolam) & Ativan (lorazepam).
