problems with I explorer

    Is anyone else having problems with Internet explorer after the last security update? I can type an address into the address bar but when I hit enter or go nothing happens. I can access sites that are in the history and click on links with no problem but can not access a site directly. I did a system restore but fear that this will come back when the computer updates again.

    my sister just got the same problem you are having. She has to type in http:\\ before whatever website she enters. I will ask her if she just updated her IE too. I stopped updating my IE a long time ago because I would hear of people have problems after updates. In the meantime you could download Mozilla's Firefox web browser. Here is the link.

    Try Firefox. Firefox isn't the 100% answer, but it's a helluva lot more secure than IE, and I use it 90% of the time. There are some screwy Java sites that work better with IE than Firefox, that's the only time I ever use IE.

    I'm on Linux. I use Opera, Firefox and Konqueror as the fancy seizes me. What's IE ?! :D

    I have the exact same problem on my office PC. All the others in the store work fine. I checked for updates and patches, but couldn't find anything. Drat!

    i use firefox and IE7, the only reason i use IE7 is becasue some things i do dont work on firefox. try IE7 if your set with IE, other wies i say go firefox.

    Dang, and here I thougt I had accidentally downloaded some funky virus from one of the porn sites. Can't believe no one has a fix for this.

    No matter how many times I've tried to give it another shot, I've yet to experience a stable Mozilla browser.

    If one were to jury-rig an outdated can of horsemeat-based dog food, a computer, a compost heap using duct tape and chicken wire, then spend the rest of eternity trying to season it in the hopeless quest of making it taste and look like filet mignon, sending it back to the kitchen a gazillion times, IE would be the wormy result.

    Yeah that. Plus there are a million things you can add/customise that make it super useful.

    If you are having java issues with FF it's all in the configuration/setup.

    Finally, a stable Mozilla distro.

    Downloaded Firefox 1 week ago - no regrets this time. Still need to configure it to my specs, but, I've been busy setting up a different system in another room the way I want it.

    In fact, that reminds me, I need to go create the world's most awful PowerPoint Birthday Card...
