Can someone recommend a place that has some good fish? Not looking for the $200 a person type of place, just a nice, down to earth, quality restaurant, preferably near the Arboretum if possible. Thanks.
Brandon, You might want to post this question on forums.egullet.com on the Texas Forum. There are several very knowledgable food people there from Austin.
I knew someone that worked at Sushi Sake. I enjoyed it, and it had good enough food for my tastes. It isn't bad at all, and I'm sure there are better places, but typically it is about who you are with that makes the most of any meal. Other recommendations: Sillouette downtown on Congress. But not this weekend! They have great tea as well.
There isn't any. I've been waiting for good sushi in Austin for a while. We're there quite a bit and it's all average and overpriced. Don't go to the one on 5th an congress(?) in downtown. The locals will tell you that's one of the best but if you've had good you will be dissapointed in the quality and the price.
I have to say Sushi Sake was a bit disapointing. I've been to a ton of places in Los Angeles that had much better fish and larger portions. It was quite over priced as well. Waiter (sat at table, although usually sit at the sushi bar) didn't even know what halibut was. I looked on one of those placards and saw halibut and the japanese name, then he knew what it was after i butchered the japanese pronounciation. I could see if the prices were like happy hour prices, but for $40/each in sushi, I expected more and came home hungry.
You guys know my woman, Tonya, designed Kenichi. It aint' cheap, but I have to admit it has the best damn Sushi in town...FedEx'd in every day. The design is awesome and it is a place for great moving scenery. d
I don't like sushi but i've heard that Kobe is good, heres a link http://www.kobeaustin.com/ they also have a menu and prices on their
Uchi is the best in Austin. Their chef-owner Tyson Cole has been selected by Food & Wine magazine as one of the year's best new chefs. http://www.austin360.com/restaurants/content/restaurants/xl/2005/05/uchi_05-26-05.html
No website. She has had several wannabes promise to build a site worthy. Nothing yet. The lighting at Kenichi.....she has a patent on it.
