How long before you think a early modena will be around/under the 100K mark ? I REALLY want a 360 but can't swing the 120-130 they still seem to be fetching, I'm going to get a 348/355/tr in the mean time, but do you think it'll be 1, 2, or 3 years out ? The reason I ask is the longer I have to wait for the 360's to drop the more time I want to take getting a "temporary" car. example, if it's it only a 12-18 months, I might go 348/TR, but if more like 2-3 years, I might get a nicer 355 since I would have it for longer time.
I bought a driver in an off color for 98k at auction a few weeks ago. It was a 99 6 speed. I think we are at least 2 years from a decent car being @100k Steve
Here's a rough formula I use for 360 values: Original MSRP - $10K/Yr until you reach 50% of MSRP. At 50% of MSRP the price levels out. So you are looking at 2007-2008 for a decent $100K 360.
Take into account also there are no other cars currently on the market with as much performance, styling, pedigree, history, reliablilty, and status as a Ferrari 360 for the $120K mark. These reasons coupled with the F430 success and current price level will not make them drop. Porsche, Aston, Lambo do not have as many attributes as I stated above to keep them in this price range. The 360 partuclarly 99/00 are in a great niche market. Only way to be in the low 100's is a high mileage car or ugly color combo lacking service, predigree, and options. They have not dropped since this time last year and there are no signs still today they are headed down. Mario
The 355 may be below 100K but the cost to service that thing is higher than a 360. Depending how long you keep the 355, you might end up spending the same amount of money for either car.
A good Euro car with no-stories, good service history can be had now for around 100K. It won't have a warranty ... but then neither will a US car of the same age.
The price difference, 80K to 130,000 is $50,000, I don't want anything I have to dump 50,000 into just the maint of. I see what you were saying though.
If you like the 360 that much, having an "interim" Fcar will still make you wish you had a 360 everytime you see one. This might even be harder to deal with in the end. It's a case of "so close, but yet so far". I know a few people who have found 99's under $120K. Mostly private sellers with no stories. These people looked REALLY hard to find these cars. Maybe you should consider going the "Euro" route? Not sure how many no stories cars are out there. In the end, you are fortunate to have this "problem". I'm sure a lot of people would kill to be in your shoes. Bottomline: you really can't go wrong with any Ferrari.
* wait it out, let the time value of $$ work for you. $100k = $5-10k saved per year with no payments/interest. * lease one of the cars you mentioned? 1-2 yr lease might net you out a bit better than round trip buy/maintenance/sell over such a short time period.
