Looks like they are designing a new Esprit, just thought I'd share: hi-res: http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6805/newespritjune060yt.jpg Image Unavailable, Please Login
NOt really close, just speculation. There are already mules running around Hethal and the Nurburgring for chassis and engine testing. But the body is of a stretched version of the outgoing Esprit. p.s. why do many people say Espirit?? is that some kind of typo?
The front looks like a Elise/Gallardo combo but the rear is all Murci! I like it. Oh yeah BMW V8tt near 500hp sign me up!
Now will Lotus please make it big enough for normal people to get in & out of without yoga? I'm beginning to think that Loti are made by & for Hobbits only.
Im 6'5 and can only pretzel myself into the passenger seat. I need snoopy goggles and a scarf and can act like the red baron LOL

Again, that is an artists rendition and does not imply or should not imply that is exactly what the new Lotus design for the "Esprit" will be.
exactly, I'm glad to hear they are redesigning it, but i hope it keeps some of its original lines. I really liked the Esprit the way it was, but it also needs a facelift after all the years.
i find the Esprit to be one of the most classic looking exotics.its impossible to confuse it for anything else.. cant say that about many cars. It definately needs to be brought up to date but I think it needs to look like an Esprit and not an Elise or a Gallardo or anything else. have my fingers crossed
At my first glance, I assumed it was a gallardo. When you study it a bit more you realise that it looks quite retro.
I would bet that the final car looks alittle more like the old Esprits than a Gallardo. Not that there is anything wrong with a Gallardo, but when you buy a Lotus, you want a Lotus. Matt
Frankly that's one of my irks about the Elise [and the "new" Elan some time back]: Japanese engine. The Esprit had a Lotus engine. To me the engine is the heart of the car. Would you like a Ferrari with a Honda engine? I am still trying to assimilate the current crop of Aston Martin engines being built in Germany. Yes, engineering, reliability, blah blah ...
BMW engines are always rated low. It is the way that they deliver the power that is so nice. A smooth broad torque curve that is very usable and not annoyingly peaky like say.. a civic Vtec engine.
