Hi everyone. I am thinking of buying a Ferrari 550, probably a 1999-2002 and was wondering what the ride was like in comparison with a 2004 F360. If you could compare it to a Gallardo, that would be even better! Thanks for your help! Rick W.
If your still interested in purchasing a 550, you can contact me at [email protected]. Best Regards, Marco Trova Fortuna (519) 903-0430
It rides better and has greater power/faster than a 360. I use mine almost everyday and it is very comfortable. They are also less of them out there and you can not beat a V12!
I found the ride a little soft, but my dailly driver is a GT2. Upgraded to the Fiorano handling package, that should do it!
Very interesting replies guys... Now to go and talk my dad into buying one! (that's the hard part! LOL!) Thank you for your replies!
i had a pleasure to ride it once in my hometown i have to admint it was surprisingly soft; when i was having a ride in modena or F430 the other day driving through the tram rails was really not too pleasureable, here it didn't make any problems
I see in your profile you had a M3. I had a 03 M3 and I hated the firm ride...just driving down the freeway was very annoying(as a daily driver). Although everything else about the car was great! My 550 is wonderful. Wonderful suspension. Bill H
The M3's a fun little car, just sent it to the body shop today. Not had but have. I need to fix my profile. Thanks for the response!
FWIW, I know someone who just sold his 1999 550 so that he can purchase a 575M. Once he drove my 575M, he hated the ride quality of his 550 and decided to make the switch.
Ride? What ride? Who in the hell buys a Maranello for the ride? We're talking torque here my man. I mean, major, major torque sluts only need apply. Ride my hinney. Dale
When I drive to Las Vegas I am not tired like a V-8 or a flat 6. The 550 is the finest car of the last century. 12 cylinders or walk
I don't know, the car was too expensive so I did not check, but it was an 02 registration, and there's not month of cargo transit between Italy and Switzerland. Titanium/blue 550 with 250GT shelf, centrale console and headliner, was on sale a year later at Hasler in Basel.
Delivered maybe - But the last 550 Maranello built was completed on the 21st December 2001. It's #126807, Bianco Avus with Bordeaux Int and is currently in the US. Argento
Ah, but in Europe it is widly held that the 575 was made too soft in order to appeal to the US market and that the Fiorano handling pack simply put it back to what it would have been if it had been designed solely for a European market. The 550 on the other hand has what we'd recognise as European suspension settings and having driven mine to Le Mans and back it's a comfortable way to travel. A Gallardo on the other hand is much harder on the backside. jg
I've got a 2001 with Fiorano and find it more comfortable on long distance trips than my Audi estate. (although the noise from the Tubi can be a tad wearing) Cheers
I have a 2001 550, and it is a great car to drive, daily or on the highway. It is quiet, with windows up of course, tubis not too noisy when windows are down, it has tons of power and is very easy to drive and handle. I also have a 360 spider, much more fun to drive when weather is nice and much more tossable...each has its own character, and i have driven both over 200 miles in one day...both comfortable and a blast. Go for it.
