Matthew, I'm happy to hear you're OK. As for the car, it appears repairable. I've seen Classic Coach in nearby Elizabeth NJ repair cars with far more damage. This 355 Challenge was just about unrecognizable (sorry, I don't have a "pre-op" picture). They fixed it, it won platinum at Cavallino a few years back, and it still races today. They're always repairing Challenge Series cars at Classic. This car's owner wanted to bring it to Cavallino for judging. I saw it before it was transported down there. It was flawless, mechanically and visually. Classic Coach is an authorized Ferrari coach repair center. I know they can make that 308 right.
Ferrari of Houston is, as well... But a recent incident with a '77 308GTB here, the insurance was not enough $$$ for a "Factory new" repair..the owner (not me!) was inclined to use another facility...
These threads definately make me consider how often I put my car "at risk" though..........I guess they become "Classic" when you cannot afford the parts!
Matthew give me a call, I'd be more than happy to speak with you about it. Call me or Tom wade 504-236-3067 Tom 704-902-9158 www.sportclassiccomp.com either one of us can help you out. Wade
In my case, any "minor" damage can total the car. The fiberglass body shatters into lots of pieces so repair is impossible unless it's a very mild hit. Replacement and refinishing costs are far more (due to labor, not parts) than the car is worth. My "agreed value" is high enough to replace the car with a similar example to mine. There's no other way to go than an agreed value on any vintage car. Ken
Did you get him or did he get away and I bet he didn't have a license or insurance either. the car looks fixable but a what cost? How fast where you going?
Just a bit of correction here for accuracy's sake, the 355 Challenge took platinum at the FCA Florida 2003 Ferrari Club of America Annual Meeting.
hey guys, update for ya. There was insurance on the truck. They called me to tell me that they are having trouble locating the insured(different person than who was driving). He will not anwser the phone. I am just letting some time pass. This will give me a leg up to file a complaint based on the Fair Claim Practices Act. I'm sure when someone's boss gets that, they will try a little harder to make it go away. I was going through some pictures last night and came across a couple where I had just had it detailed before going to a charity function. Makes you remember all the sweat that went into the little things. Like how much I scraped up my Damn arms taking out my window motors and regreasing them. And on the first window when I got the cable mixed up on the track and saw the sun come up because I refused to let it beat me. Emotional value????? hell yeah. I will keep everyone posted
a good car is a good car....I've repaired mine twice from damage... This isn't some jap car beater we're discussing here!
I know of a black 328GTS that was totaled when new and then bought and repaired by Bo Pirkle who did such a good job on the repairs it won Platinum and Coppa Machina at the Ferrari Club of America Nationals at Chateau Elan in Atlanta a few years back. Bo sold it to a guy named Delvac I believe and I believe he has since sold it as well. So, if you're willing to spend the money AND get someone like Bo to do the work, a Ferrari can be made better than ever after a wreck...
Michael, Happy (bump) New Year !! Hope things are working out. Whats up? keep us posted with any new developments please. I nearly missed T-boneing a Lexus at about 50mph on Christmas day, made me think of you as I pulled off a successful 4 wheel lock up panic stop. Wish I had a picture of the woman's face in the drivers side window as she realized she had just pulled right out in front of an oncoming Ferrari (looked sort of like LargeMarg from that Peewee Herman film). Everything turned out ok for me, and I wish the same for you. Best of luck. -Lou
Matthew, I was also hit in my 308 (see thread below), PM me and I will tell you what it cost to fix mine and other details. Good luck. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72630
I have a friend that did that to his 328 (same color too!) The repair estimate was $48K. Not really worth doing unless you need a lifelong doityourself project (might fix it for $25K then).
Ok.......they offered me 25k plus my car. Does anyone kno how much it is worth wrecked? It has 24k miles on the engine, and the rear door gaps are fine. I think the frame up front is bent though. What do you guys think of the offer?
Damage allowed PLUS 'diminished value" after repair? Have you cited Cavallino's latest Market numbers to them? Have you gotten Wade Nunez, involved in estimate of repairs? Bent frames can be repaired to roll........
The money plus parts salvage will probably see you made whole...IIRC that was Napolis' recommendation...but please let Wade lay hands on it and get a realistic chance of getting it back together...... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I may have missed it and I did read all the pages but what Ins. carrier does Matt have. I amshopping for new ins on the 308QV and leaving Leeland (finally) and I am thinking the consensus from many threads is Hagerty, although I may check out AAA has a classic/exotic underwriter now...
i say it depends on how much you like the car. my dad's 914 looked something like that after stupid driving by me, but we kept the car and fixed it. looks great now. it cost money but the sentimental value is very high for that 914. john
The savings are quite signicant but have mileage restrictions...... I'll admit I just add mine on to my 'regular cars' with State Farm at stated value based upon purchase $$$..but I've been eyeball to eyeball with adjusters just as this thread describes..... They don't like hearing 'Ferrari' too much though, so they will blink first........especially after you refuse to final the claim number, for a couple of YEARS!!!!!!
You have to evaluate frame deflection and go from there, BUT these frames are tube steel all the way, he11 for strong.... You could cut everything off at the front firewall and still have a viable repair.....
