1969 Camaro COPO #matching REAL DEAL COPO RARE This car has a strong family history. The motor was never decked, shaved, or restamped it is original to the car,. The transmission has been replaced. It has 45,000 kms which is about 28,000 miles. I've read that COPO cars had either more hp, better suspensions or just more goodies depending on the car. Are they very rare? If the car is a 9/10 with no issues what would it be worth? This is the only picture I have of it. Gebus sorry for the all caps title, I don't know why I did that and now I can't change it. $150k ? it depends as not all Corporate Office Production Order Cars are the same. i have had a couple of weird ones, before the muscle car "boom". i would be careful with muscle cars, the real esate market adjusting itself is going to effect the prices of these cars.
Neil Do you know who it was ordered through? 69 had COPO in Yenko If it is a TRUE COPO YENKO that is worth large coin http://www.sportscarmarket.com/profiles/2005/September/American/index.html Not a Yenko still worth large coin just not as large. PM me for more (don't post much more for a bit)
Very rare? Not VERY rare but there were only about 70 built so they are rare. COPO cars came with an all aluminum 427cid V8. In most cases the copo option MORE than doubled the cost of the car. One example would be a new car costing $3700, the COPO package added another $4100 to the final price. I believe the Yenko cars were iron block 427's so the COPO is less common and more than likely worth more $$.
I believe you are correct. IIRC, the COPOS are more rare than the Yenkos... That car is worth six figures for sure.
COPO (Central Office Production Order) came in a couple flavors. 9560, which included the all-aluminum ZL-1 427 (69 built). And 9561, which featured the L-72 cast iron 427 (and the car Yenko ordered and put their stickers on - not all 9561's are Yenkos, though). These guys'll have a decent handle on price ... http://www.yenko.net/
Thanks for the info guys, the owner is still unavailable for a few hours, so no word yet. Also in terms of rare, I would consider 1 of 70 very rare and 1 of 2,000 rare. I wonder how many of these cars are left?
Maybe you are right. I was thinking anything less than 20 to be "very rare" and less than 6 or 7 "extremely rare"
Yeah it's all in terms personal belief. Is it a nice green or a perfect green? All subjective. Also a million to you may seem small but a million to a child is unimaginable.
I used to know what that color was called. I will dig around and see what I can find. I remember seeing a couple of Corvettes roll off the line that color...
I believe the color is like a forest green. That color was around back then. If you like green, its all subjective. Its usually the green interior that kills the look.
I have noticed that with the oled cars the interior colour usually follows the exterior colour, not like today.
Finally heard back from the "owners", it's 100% scam material. I send $700 to San Jose for shipping, get the car for 5 days as an inspection period and then wire the rest to San Jose. I said "$700 for shipping was high way robbery!" and they said "No this is internet robbery." <<< That was my first clue to the deal being shaky. Sorry for the misleading thread. More good info here though.
A 1969 chev Camaro COPO, brown w/ black interior, sold at Barrett jackson for $160,000.00 this year. I remember seeing a green/green one go for $120,000.00-$130,000.00 in 2006 in case you want to know.
Yeah, after I got the first email from them, I was somewhat excited because the spelling was perfect, the info was what I asked for, then a couple of days of nothing... then the $700 clause. Sorry if you had to back pedal Otto, excitement flows quickly.
Ill forward this thread to my cousin. He has a "1st generation" camero.. and has been president of the Houston Camero Club for a number of years now. He should be able to give you a pretty good idea. He goes to Camero Car shows ALL THE TIME (its his passion really).. Mike
