quick question regarding high mileage ferraris. ive never understood buying a high mileage ferrari, what are disadvantages and why do people still buy them? for example a 2002 modena with say 20k+ on it.
Whats wrong with a high mileage ferrari? you get them for cheaper, you sell them for cheaper, you can drive them without miles being an issue, I don't think a 2002 with 20,000kms is high miles.
4,000 km's a year is high miles - are you on drugs? That's just warmed up These are cars; don't drive them and they dry out, get cranky, and complain! $5/km is a lot to pay for depreciation already - drive 'em more, they get cheaper by the km and the smiles get bigger. Enzo designed them with a red-line on the tach for a reason - and remember; all gauges are designed for top dead center as normal, that's 200km/h and 5000 rpm officer (that'd be the track officer of course, Fchat constable).
I have 38500 k on my 430.. it does hurt the value but lost opp costs are not in the car game.. Its about enjoyment not money.. If you play in this leage the owner should not worry about 10-20 grand..
I personally drive my Murcielago as much as possible. I have other cars I take to work, party, etc. so when I drive the Murci its just for the hell of driving a Murcielago around town. Thats what keeps and will keep the kms on my car low and I think a lot of other exotic owners are the same way. Most have other cars for daily drivers and have a ferrari/lambo or whatever else as their "fun" car thats driven for the hell of driving it. I know if I have a headache all I have to do is floor the gas pedal on my muri and the v12 along with the tubi work better then a Tylenol

1000% agree - Sanj, if you're going to dump $100-$400k in a car, better get a return equivalent to operating costs, depreciation and cost of money in grins. Don't know about you, but just staring at it in the garage doesn't do it for me. Fear of miles seems to only happen to new and classic Ferraris (not so much vintage?). As my 12 year old says; why would anyone buy a car and not drive it. srticky - I hear you - but hopefully you're able to get that best to stretch her legs on the open road to see if the right-side of the shifter and tach still works?!
