I'm in process of installing TR heads on a 400 block, toping it with a ITB set-up and stuffinng it all in my 308.

Sukuki hayabua has 46mm (can be bored to 48) TBs that can go for about $200 for 4, you need 4 set though to get all the parts to do 2 nice sets of 12. I'm may run a motec, but since the TR head have distributors I can use, a haltech for E11 for $1800 will run it just fine. I'll make the intake and the whole set-up will be easily under $4000.

Mark, The bore centers lined up?? that was lucky, do the head studs line up too? Water passages? you're putting them sitting on top of a V, so oil drainback shouldn't be a huge issue to overcome. Will the pistons need to be dished out a little? how does the combustion chamber size compare to the original heads? Any thought what is going to happen with the compression ratio?

Nevermind, just skimmed the thread.. impressive project :) I tried to figure out what 4 valve head would bolt to the M70 V12 in the GTO and gave up..
I'm not a fan of the way the bolts on the TR head studs sit inside a half covered hole, but those are going to breathe a lot better than what came on that engine ..

Question, why bother with distributors? We just tossed out distributors and went with a trigger wheel on the crank and individual coils.. makes for a hot spark and no waiting months for replacement caps/rotors. and in your application I'd imagine you could use all the extra space you can create eliminating extra components. One spacesaver we used was a Powermaster alternator. It's super small and 75 amp (under 4" in diameter see attached image) retails for about $300, I have a spare still in the box that I'd part with cheap.

anyway - looks like a fun project!

    I've also got a GTO Special and I'm fitting a 575M engine & 550 transaxle.
Jenvey in UK are casting up the manifolds to take 12 of their throttle bodies. These will also fit 550 and can be used on 40 or 45mm bodies. Price very reasonable.
Unlike the Harmony set-up the TB's are angled in to the centre to give absolutely straight ports. I plan to try out different intake lengths when we get it on the dyno.
I haven't finally settled on which management system to use.

Pictures of the car and engine are in the ' Converted to Comp. Daytonas ' thread in the Vintage section, pages 2 & 3

    Thanks.

There are a couple reasons I'm thinking distributors. One is that is would save me several thousand dollars worth of electronics that I would need to fire 12 coils, remember this is a 308 so budget matters. The second reason is that the TR valve covers are wide as ferrari used them for oil collection and return. Any way, the plug wires run along the side and hide the cover width so it looks nice, if I went individual coils I know I'd end up cutting off the sides of the covers to make them pretty:) I think the final decision will be if I have space for the distributors or not. As for cap and rotor, I would almost certainly fit a US alternate to solve the cost and availability problems with the OEM parts.

That is a cool little alternator....very tempting.

I agree, but I think there is a lot of wrong info and people tunning them and opting for the cheaper versions on the market. would be nice if there was more input from Motec on this.

Motec makes what is probably the best ecu out there, it will do anything and do it reliably. The problem is that it is also less plug and play then many, which might be leading to a very much undeserved bad reputation.

If individual Throttle bodies were the hot deal the auto manufactures would supply them! This deal will lose a ton of power in the lower and mid range and won't make more on the top end unless you rev it higher than 8500 rpm. Take a close look at the stock manifolds they will be dam hard to beat! Most of the improvments in this series has been on the manifold.
