I have an early 85 308, SN 52973, its made in July of 84 What is the first serial number for 85 and when was it made?? and why are they 85's, shouldn't they be 84's?
I have an 85 308 QV number 55255 manuf. in Dec of 1984. I know they made a few slight changes like the 2 tone color and the 2 knobs for the fuse panel cover. They were making the 328 that year as well
Wow, in 6 months Ferrari made 2424 cars after mine, I have the 2 knob/fuse panel also, not sure when that started, the Ferrari registry shows the first 85 GTS as 52831 and the first 85 GTB as 52865 The last GTS registered as 59265 and the last GTB registerd as 59023
according to 308 QV Register http://www.308qvregister.com/ 52831 is the first GTS and 52865 is the first GTB in 1985
I think that was still at the time Ferrari only used odd numbers for the serial number. That would make it about 1,200 cars made during those six months (although that does sound a little low).
I was going to say that, your right though, and my 308qv vin#52969 its a 85 also but july 84 is the build date, and I registered it on wades site www.308qvregister.com
Looks like July was a popular month, does any one have producton information, How many made in what months?
What date is on his smog label under the hood? I am told thats the date that matters Those cars might be considered as 85's ! I started the thread to see what is the first SN for 85.
From what I understand, the production date means date of production and not year model, that comes from the emmission sticker, and lets face it Ferrari is just like any small auto manufacturer. that date can and does reflect what they want it to. Look at the TR's
No, both cars are dated 1984. You can find it here too, click on the blue S/N http://www.308qvregister.com/WebMainPages/1984%20GTS.htm
I think that person needs to look again, another reson that so many were pumped out was that 85 was to be the last of the 308's,I did a search and between 1982-1985 (3042) 308gtsqv were made and (748)308gtbqv were made I'm looking for how many were made just in 85,get back to you soon
well on wade's site he's production #'s are as follows 1982 gts 185 gtb 84 1983 gts 871 gtb 204 1984 gts 1253 gtb 259 1985 gts 733 gtb 201 --------------
I have a 1985 GTS QV Euro number 52073. I stopped trying to make sense of seriel numbers as mine is real confusing.
I understand 52865 to be 1985 308 GTS QV, not a GTB QV. I also see two more 308 GTS QVs after 59265 (59273 and 59847). What else do you know about 52605...? The earliest 1985 USA 308 GTB QV I can find is 53067; the earliest Euro 1985 308 GTB QV I can find is 55803. The earliest 1985 USA 308 GTS QV I can find is 52835 (52809 is a 1984, so while 52831 is undoubtedly a US car, I'm unable to confirm whether it's an '84 or an '85); the earliest Euro '85 308 GTS QV is can find is 55587. As for 1985 production, Ferrari made about 4,500 (I could be off) cars that year. Going by 308 serial numbers isn't enough; Ferrari was making other models that year, too, i.e., Testarossas, injected automatic and five-speed 400s, Mondial QVs, BBi 512s, Turbo 208s, GTOs, 3.2 Mondial Coupes and Cabs, automatic and five-speed 412s, a few hundred 328s and, of course, four valve GTS and GTB 308s.
today when I took her out for an hour I then remember about this thread and checked the sticker under the deck lid on the left side of the engine is a sticker for smog (catalyst) for the epa and the state of california that comply's with the 1985 model year and the on my windshield on the drivers side is another decal california exhaust emission stardards which also says this vehicle has been tested and conforms to the california assembly line test requirements for the 1985 model year, and the drivers door jam which has the vin and year and the manafacture's date its a 85 built in july 1984,but some of the cars out there aren't going to have those two decals I'm speaking about because thats another way to find out if its a 84 or 85
