The fan in my car turns on randomly on full setting. This tends to happen more when the car is cold, at the beginning of a drive. Typical symptoms are, turn key to start, fan kicks in. Drive for 5-10 minutes, fan shuts off, then back on intermittently. Another 5-10 minutes later, it turns off for good. Basically it is possessed. It will turn on/off even at a red light, so it is not a bump or vibration that is causing this.

I've checked and used stabilant on the ground tabs under the left vent, on the plug to the main AC controller itself. I've disassembled the main AC controller to check the solder joints and put stabilant on the pins. I've also checked the hiden fuse near the ABS ECU. If I take the fuse out, fan shuts off for good as does the AC display. None of these helped the problem.

When I'm not experiencing the problem, The actual AC control seems to work fine. Clock works, if I hit the AC button, cold air comes out, heater works. Fan speed buttons work etc.

    Any suggestions?

Yes, I've run through all the obvious recommendations on the tech document. Hence checking and putting stabilant to the ground block behind the left vent, checking the fuse near the abs computer etc.

Maybe I'm getting no responses because I stumped the brotherhood? :D

Sounds like the fan speed control unit.

My fan would stay on medium speed even when the AC control was switched to vent. I could adjust the speed higher than medium, but it would never go below.

Unfortunately it can't be repaired, just replaced. Ricambi has them and they aren't that expensive.

I can send you my old one if you want to see if that changes your symptoms.

Try to find one of my threads concerning A/C fan. Sorry I can not give you the thread here because I do not know how.
The solution is there. I went through the same thing this spring.

It is the fan motor itself.......easy fix......but some trouble getting the thing out.

If you can´t find my thread..........give me a pm and I will guide you.

    Good luck!!!!

    Is it this thread? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197795

I will try getting to the fan. The previous owner bolted a CD changer and amplifier against the carpetted trim so I'm going to have to disassemble all of that to get to the thing....

If you make sure the fan is on........and wait till it turns off by itself.......then if you open up so you can see the fan itself........you press gentle on the centre of the fan.......the axle/shaft .......if it starts again it is the same problem I had.

In that case take out the fan motor and change the coals and weld all them pressed copper wires. That is what the "doc" did with mine and now it works perfect.

On the other hand the compressor stopped working the other day so I still have a problem.

    Never a dull moment!

Thanks. Do you know where I can find this unit? in the diagram it just seems to hang out in space. Is it near the abs ecu? (Part 2 below for reference)
