Switches... I have yet to see this plane, but you can be sure I will!! And would'nt it be great, to have her restored, and flyable.... huh?? Would'nt it ? ? ? http://www.javelinamx.com/N9412H/
If this is an l-049 it would be nice to see the nose restored to the original configuration and delete the radome. Thanks for posting this. The Connie is a beautiful and good airplane and it would be great to see this excellent airplane restored. Switches
My son also is a Connie lover and rightly so, it's a beautiful airplane. I recall that the fuselage profile was based on the NACA 2037 airfoli where circles were enscribed around the mean line to form the shape of the body. Lockheed could and did build some beautiful airplanes. During the war I was a crew member on a Lockheed C-60 Lodestar and also a B-34 Ventura. They were fast and reliable. Switches
So is this for sale or something? The page says it "awaits rescue" so I'm assuming they're holding onto it til they raise enough money. Definitely one of my favorite planes of all time. TWA or Lufthansa liveries look nice.
As with most of the beautiful airplanes, the originals were adulterated in the process of improving their performance. The Spitfire was gradually uglified with drooping elongated noses and stretched flight surfaces. The ME109 the same. And like the Connie, they were originally designed with a balance and symetry to accomodate what was then optimum power. The exception would be the P40, I think. As it was improved to the K series it got better looking because it was aerodynamically massaged without increasing the engine size and power. The original Connie is much prettier than the Super Connie.
The author I beleive, is making a wishful thinking statement. The Connie, is the property of the state,(?) county(?) since the purchase of the airport from the private ownership... But I think that with the ethics issues, greed, and corruption, NJ is currently suffering through....along with it's current lack of funds, that..... A proposal to the "Gubmint", including a fair offer, wouldn't (IMHO) be turned down. Yes my favorite also. Wish I could afford her.... (long breathy sigh!)
You guys can't forget about this one. I hope to maybe get in this one or another on falcon field to do my first music video at the end of the year. Just getting started on it. The owner isn't even in the country now. I got a line on another one coming into arizona also. http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/survivors/pages/45-11628.shtml This is the best looking girl I know airfreddy
The greenwood lake Connie is an 049. It is the first Air France Connie. It is owned by the state of NJ and it has been bolted to the side of the building with the fusalage modified to accomodate its use as a pilot shop / restaurant. It's one of my favorite aircraft but it needs LOTS of work to bring back. Regards, Art S.
Charlie, I don't think I know Ernie S. I've been away from the whole airplane scene for a few years and am just slowly getting back into it now. I have always loved that old Connie and hope I can earn enough money to save her before it's too late. Regards, Art S.

Awesome video! A friend of mine is supposed to put an interior in that airplane this fall, after it goes to Oshkosh... I'm hoping to get an up-close visit! Looks like she has been flying quite a bit lately-- which is a good sign! https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N422NA

It's too bad that they had to ruin the shape of the original nose with the spherical radome. Always beautiful Lockheed designs.
