This could be the craziest question; has anybody ever attempted to remove the material from the inside of the factory cats and reinstall them back on the f355. Essentially converting the factory cats to straight pipes

    Three reasons not to:

    1) The factory cats are super expensive now...running over $3k each. Unless they are already damaged/broken, buy straight pipes, and save your factory cats, or sell them on Ebay. ;)

    2) Someone claimed that straight pipes were preferable, as the hollowed cat would act as an expansion chamber and slow velocity (?). I have no idea, I am not an expert on the subject.

    3) On a 1996 to 1999 5.2 Motronic car, the post cat O2 sensor will detect the lack of a catalyst and set off the "check engine" light for low cat efficiency.

My home made hyperflows. The cores can handle 2 O2 bungs (one before, one after) to make the OBD2 compatible, thus usable on the Motronig 5.2 F355's. At a cost of USD 250 for both cores + welding and cutting of the original pipes. Good news is that these are metallic core 100 CEL units, which are less prone to overheat as the free flow also cools them. The wider holes means particulate would pass through rather then plug the holes. Lower back-pressure also means better performance.

I have now put 1700 miles on them in a month and a half, with 2 track runs (only slight purpling, like motorcycle pipes) and several long trips on the German autobahn at 150 mph+
