Hi guys, in my project on the 328, see my thread in the Dutch section, i'm ready with taking the engine apart as far is i intended. Now, before putting all parts back I like to make all parts "as new" first. Today I started with the cam belt covers but i noticed the poor production quality of the parts.... ( As I noticed before on the cam shaft covers) See attached pictures for just an example. I could sand them and thaqn polish to shine but I'm not really the bling bling type of guy. I could paint them... But than again, which color? Please share your thoughts with me on this. Maybe there are some, who decide to paint them in the past, that even are williong to post some pictures. Just to let you know. In my project the airbox wil get it's original red shrink-paint and i already decided earlier to do the cam shaft covers in this red as well. You could consider media blasting them to remove that shine, and give them a more uniform appearance. Also, some not-too-shiny silver paint would not look bad (until it peeled or chipped). Never seen them wrinkle red.
I did the belt covers on my 308 in red krinkle paint, and like how they came out. To each his own, as they say. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like simple. Powder coated the covers in dull deep red and belt covers in crinkle black Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Crinkle paint hides a lot of sins. Cheap and easy. I did the belt covers in red so that they match the valve covers. But crinkle also retains any oil and dirt. Not very visible with black, but the red doesn't stay looking as clean.
I thought about that, but on the belt covers, the raised parts are rounded, not flat, like on the cam covers. The cam covers are easy to sand off, as you can see in the picture. But I didn't want to start fooling with the round ridges as it would be hard to control and nearly impossible to get straight, even lines.
Thanks! Yes, one electronic distributor+MSD for increased reliability. Many thanks! Same engine, installed Image Unavailable, Please Login
and do you notice better proformance, because Scott from mugello motors did one on a 328 that was run by a computer and coils on each cyclnders, supposed to boost the hp by 150%,and of course a turbo included, that was one smart man,I'll miss his work since he's moved south
Not to hijack the thead, but Scott's power primarily came from the turbo. This single distributor+MSD was done for simple bulletproof reliability and diy tuning. Starting much improved (MSD?); power is as good or wee better. And, the single distributor looks terrific.
Steven, I would opt for grey. As seen on an F40 (pics posted here before). Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

how much do you think you have in the engine if you don't mine telling? that is a very nice and clean engine ,something thats to prefect to put back in the car or leave it out to admire
Thanks. It makes me feel happy just knowing it is back there. Cost? I have no idea...seriously... as it was done over years. I can tell you no one can afford it...
