Carbon might be able to extract anecdotal conclusions from his database. The percentage I've been given by dealers was about 30% had the factory stripe. Most buyers thought it too outlandish when placing their orders. I've also been told many of the cars flipped into the resale market not only for a quick profit, but because buyers (the guys who bought one of every Ferrari) found the CS unduly harsh.
I had heard the percentage was closer to 10%. When I was searching for mine less than the 10% of the available cars had a factory stripe. We can get a poll of Stradale owners on this site and see what numbers we come up with.
I thought I read somewhere that 30+ US cars had the factory stripe, and If thats true, then that would make factory striped cars worth much more than non striped cars. (at least more than the $6K option on the window sticker)
I have seen a couple up close, the stripe is made from paint, its very well done and shows a level of craftsmanship that is not present on other makes. I would pay 10-20% for one with a stripe. IMHO>
I had one with a factory stripe and they are not made from paint, its seems that way with a finish like on a pool ball, but if you open the rear deck and look carefully you can see the end of the vinyl stripe. It is however carefully clear coated over and levelled. Same with stripes on the Scud and 16M except the option is now 8+K. I have a spreadsheet somewhere with the stat of circa 10% of CS with stripe which would extrapolate to circa 30 cars in the US.
dude, thats really funny. Level of crafsmanship that isnt present on other makes. Its a friggin vinyl stripe with clearcoat over it! That very post goes to show the difference with a factory stripe and a post delivery is something only crazy people like me care about! thats some funny stuff!!!!
You HAVE a CS there in your own 'backyard'!! Con him into taking you for a drive, saves you travelling 16 hrs up this way to ride in mine! BTW, you will probably own a CS before I do!
the oem stripe is a decal clearcoated over- i have it on my car and you can clearly see where the decal finishes underneath the front bonnet
When you are sick of your CS Tony, let me know eh?? I would LOVE to buy it from you. Say in 5 yrs time, that ok with you?
As far as the number of CS's with Stripes, we have sold at least 50 that have gone onto genuine CS's in the US.
It's hard for me give accurate information because when I spot a CS I mention the stripe if it has a stripe - and I say 'no stripe' if it doesn't have a stripe. So search results are a bit misleading. I would have to go through each of the 370 US Stradales that I have and see what's what. A preliminary search shows 88 - but those results shouldn't be considered accurate.
I count at least 73 North American spec CS's with OEM stripe. I'm confident there are more that haven't been accounted for.
I saw pictures of the striping process. It's not even done at the factory. After the car has been painted and clear coated, it's sent to a local body shop that manually adds the stripe. This body shop also handles the "decaling" of Ferrari's Formula 1 cars. So if you add a stripe with Premier (which they have done on several cars) where they remove the clear, add the factory stripe, and reclear over the stripe, it's the same process except that it isn't done in Italy by the "factory". With that said, of course, I'd rather have the "factory" stripe.
you know, i actually felt this way too when i started searching for a CS. But now that there are so many scuderias and 16Ms i think the stripe is losing its originallity. Im seeing more and more regular 360 and 430s with it, and im starting to like the pureness of CSs without the stripe.
