Anyone see this? http://www.cnbc.com/id/32984904 No. 6 out of 15... not bad Looks like Enzo's biography Premieres: Thursday, October 1st 10pm ET on cnbc. Pietro
The #6, the Viola Dino Metallizzato 106-A-71 painted Ferrari Dino 206 GT is S/N 00268 and lives in Switzerland. It has been completely restored. The current color is not the original color for this serial number but the current owner liked the rare Viola more than the original Blu Scuro. It surely reminds us of the good old 1960s (Flower Power, etc.). Marcel Massini
A gorgeous 206, but I doubt anyone in their right mind on this planet would pony up $300K for it. I wonder where/how they came up with this (unrealistic) number)?
I am the person who came up with this "unrealistic" number. I currently know of two super nice and perfectly restored 206 Dino GTs in Europe that can be bought but not for less than USD 300 K. Guaranteed. And I am not talking about the Viola painted 00268 which is in Switzerland and not for sale. The amount is not unrealistic at all. If you have a nice and correct one available for much less than that please let me know! Marcel Massini
Very interesting list full of drool-provoking automobiles. I'm a little surprised by the Enzo's 8th place as I think it's a very cool looking machine but not necessarily pretty. It's all very personal though.
You mean great VINTAGE list by Marcel. I would say Marcel is a somewhat biased to the vinatge era. e.g., Daytona...no way is that one of the most beautiful Ferrari designs IMHO.
Hmmmm....... I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. The number one car is rare but beutiful? IMO it should be last, Daytona and Enzo off the list. There are so many good looking F cars.
Julio That is a matter of opinion off course. Yes the 50's and 60's were the era of some of the most beautiful designed cars not just Ferrari's but Astons, Jags etc But you cannot ignore the F40, 328GTB or 355GTB from the more recent past that IMO deserve a place on the list.
Beauty and value are also generational. In its day, the Lusso did not move off the showroom. They were discounted aggressively to be rid of them. So too the Rolex pushbutton chronographs (Daytonas and pre-Daytonas). Authorized Rolex Dealers were forced to inventory this watch if they wanted to receive other Rolex pieces. They couldn't give the Chronograph away. Nobody wanted them. Dinos were econo-models. And to think that at one time, not so long ago, a Ford Fairlane sold for 6 figures. Jim S.
Hi Marcel, we met at FCA and again at Milwakee..I have the GTE #3447.. was this show completed in 2001 or just recently? CNBC list the show as 2001?
Marcels List 1. 375 MM Spider Chassis #0286 AM (1953) 2. 250 GTO Series Two 1964 3. 250 LM Berlinetta 1964 4. 250 MM Berlinetta 1953 5. 166 MM Barchetta 1949 6. 206 Dino GT 1968 7. 250 GT SWB Berlinetta 1961 8. Enzo (2003) 9. 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta (1968) 10. 250 GT Lusso Berlinetta (1963) 11. 330 P4 Berlinetta (1967) 12. 250 GT Cabriolet Series 1 (1957) 13. 250 Testa Rossa Spider (1959) 14. 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta 1967 15. 375 Plus Cabriolet 1954 What Im surprised about is the 375MM Spider is the most beautiful!?! IMO, its beautiful, but there is many more Ferraris that beat it in the looks. Personally, I would eliminate 1#,4#, 6#,#9, 10#, and 15#. Then I would add 250 California Spyder, 550 Maranello, F50(I know not ever one likes them), 250 GT TDF, 250 Testa Rossa Pontoon fender, and F40. With them rearranged with 166MM being number one! The Testarossa and the 355 would be honorable mentions. Agreed! The Daytona isn't top 15 material... I bet it's more fun to drive compared to a 166MM, but not as beautiful. If any I wouldn't put it in the top 10...
+2 an ENZO doesnt belong on that list. rare, absolutely, technologically magnificent, yep. beautifull design no way. Maybe this was just marcels way of throwing a bone to the the Modern cars.
The Enzo has a brutally functional look, and from the front (especially in Rosso Corsa) it reminds me of an angry lobster. I would not consider the Enzo beautiful, however. It is, unequivocally, imposing and commanding in appearance, in keeping with the level of its performance. Unquestionably a supercar, under most anyone's criteria, I don't think that it should be recognized as a beautiful car. Only one man's opinion, of course. Fred
I think for a car to be on a list like this it needs to stand the test of time. At least 20-30 years. The Enzo may look cool today, but so did the Testarossa in the 80's.
Re: Enzo. This is a very dramatic design, but not pretty or even attractive, IMO. As I said on another thread, it reminds me of one of those 50s sci-fi movies where the insects wander into an atomic bomb test site and.....
call me crazy... but the 30 million estimate for the 330P4 seems a bit excessive as well... i don't think anyone would part with 30 mil for one... but thats just my stupid opinion... another dumb opinion... series 2 gto is no where NEAR as attractive as a series 1.... but thats because I am a GTO nutcase. I will never forget the time I spent in the GTO
