For those Schumacher fans out there, if you haven't already heard, Michael Schumacher is racing shifter karts this weekend in Las Vegas at the SKUSA Supernationals. He is racing in the most competitive category against primarily european based pro kart drivers who are licking their chops to get a shot at the 7 time world champion.

If you are interested in following Schumi over the weekend you can find information here:

and you can check up on his results on the mylaps page (Schumacher is racing in the SuperPro category)

    Cheers

Qualifying didn't go so well for the Schumi out of 40 drivers he did 25th about a second off the pace of the pole sitter. Schumacher's team mate (same equipment) is about half a second quicker at this moment.

Other notables in the SuperPro category are Torro Rosso's Sebastian Buemi, Indy car's Raphael Matos, Phil Giebler (USA A1GP/Indy car), and Nelson Piquet junior (bboooo!)

    Hi Will,

Unfortunantely I am in Dallas and not Las Vegas this weekend. There are some very cool photos online an http://www.ontrackpromotions.com/Home.html click on the SKUSA Super Nationals logo that is in the middle of the page

Schumacher was on a barn burner in his first heat race today. His tony kart came to life and he went from 27th starting position to 12th, the old boy has got it. His quickest lap time was within .3 tenths of a second off the race winner.

He will be back on tomorrow

    Cheers

    Michael

I am not fully sure how he has done it, but the Schumacher has pulled some incredible results out of his hat during Saturday's heat races to be gridded 9th of 44 for today's final.

This is really impressive given that he qualified 27th (and had to start in 27th) in all of the 3 heat races yesterday. In each of the heat races he worked his way through the field to finish 12th, 13th and 18th.

Other notables who will be starting behind Schumacher in today's race:

    12. Nelson Piquet Junior
    17. Sebastian Buemi
    20. Phil Giebler
    28. Raphael Matos

A few of the guns who start ahead of him (these are all karters whose names wont mean much)
    4. Arnaud Kazlinski (recent winner of karting world championship)
    6. David Fore (4x karting world champion)
    7. Marco Ardigo (Tony kart factory driver, 2007 Karting World Champion)
    8. Top running American driver Ron White (American karting star, lots of US championships, will soon know how it feels to have the 7x world champion lined up on his bumper)

Here is a video taken from a hand held camera from one of Schumachers heat races yesterday. Not professional quality footage, but all considered the camera man does a good job from the cheap seats!

Some strong moves from Schumacher coming through the field. He is wearing the bright red helmet and white driving overalls.

Everyone talks about F1 being the pinacle of motorsport, but I don't remember Schumacher ever having to start 27th in an F1 race before. Actually, I don't recall the last year there were 27 entries in an f1 race.
