For radiant heating gypcrete is ususally used just for interiors and concrete in used for garages and external applications. We just finished a house in Montana using radiant heating throughout; gypcrete in the house and concrete in the garages. Concrete does a great job transferring the heat into the garage. We wanted to use snowment in a few areas but it was just to expensive; we're using geothermal for most of the heating and we would have had to add a boiler for snowmelt to work.

Great job on your garage Bill, many of us would be happy to live there, even without the Enzo!

Thanks guys for the excellent rat advice and compliments. Whenever the neighborhood cat is around, rats and mice are usually not around! Andrew, thanks for that dynamic duo... I didn't know cats and mice got along so well!

Wall tiles, wood trim, paneled oak doors, cabinets, wood staining, granite counters, car lifts, garage door lifts and wrought iron work should be completed this month. Wall sconces, chandelier, furniture and artwork will likely be completed in February. I'll post detail pictures as these items take shape.

Its too bad you mentioned the rodent problem after the walls were closed. I would have suggested putting a line of paprika along any horizontal surface before paneling the walls... the wire chewing bastards can't stand the stuff...

A similar rodent situation came up on a thread in another forum recently. The owner took matters into his own hands, with interesting results. Definitely worth a quick skim for comedy gold. Not for those squeamish about hurting our furry friends.

    Norm,

this is correct. We are applicators here using hacker products.

    Bill,

You posted that last picture upside down, it makes it look like your're putting tile on the ceiling :)

    It all looks great.

    Looking great!

One thing that would eternally frustrate me it the light not being center on the tile, otherwise, no negative comments here! :)

I, too, have CDO - it's like OCD, but the letters are in order, as they should be. :)

Bill, the tile looks great, and it looks everything is moving along at a nice pace. I'm looking forward to seeing more picture updates.

Funny! Actually an iron plate for a chandelier will be installed there, so it's not very noticeable. Plus it gives us the slightly imperfect hand-made charm we're looking for.

But it is in the center of the ceiling!

Thanks! All materials are in, so things are moving fast now. We should be ready to move cars back in at the end of this month.

Custom 4-post low-profile lifts from Bendpak are going in next week. We powder coated them to match the rest of the look.

    That looks amazing.

Are you using anything special for the tiles on the ceiling so none fall down?

We mortar the ceiling and back-butter the tile. The tiles are slightly porous with a little cup shape, so they kind of suck right into the mortar bed.

Bill, will there be a non-tiled wall upon which you can hang shelves and assorted Ferrari miscellanea? Or will the only Ferrari decorations be the Ferraris?

    Good question! There will be:

    1. Glass shelves in the sitting area on the small side tiled walls.
    2. Display furniture (not built-ins) and floor pedestals in the corner and a few other areas.
    3. Built-in display cabinet in the corner.
    4. Display furniture in the loft/seating area.

Here are the pictures of these 4 areas...
