Wondering if anyone can comment on the authenticity of the tool roll taken out of my 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS? Here is a picture of the tool roll: Image Unavailable, Please Login Looking at the 20mm wrench it is marked Everest and indicates that is was made in India. Image Unavailable, Please Login In between the pliers and the spark plug wrench is a tool whose purpose has not yet been revealed to me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Your screwdrivers pliers/sparkplug look orig but your spanners should marked polytools made in italy.
I've seen spanners with FERRARI on the handle instead of a manufacturor's name and marked 'made in India' in known OEM QV & 328 tool rolls, I'm not sure when the change from Italy to India was made tho. I don't believe I've ever seen an EVEREST wrench tho. What does the other end of the strange tool look like?
I have 1978 GTS too, but without the original tool kit. I have purchase the bag (pouch), but without tools. I have been watching ebay and elsewhere for what you have. I have spent well over two years trying to find and much research. Your equipment looks correct to me. That is a hot item.
Yes,, it is correct. I am hunting for the Tools Marked "Ferrari" for my 1981 Mondial 8 Euro. good luck with ebay. Ciao, Edwardo
Not sure when they changed but I know up to 1975 the everest were the correct wrenches. I think you have a completes set with 2 carb tools.
Given how often they appear on Ebay I'm guessing Edwardo & Oliver may want the tools but may not want to pay market price of a few hundred bucks ! If I'm wrong please pm me
Everest was one of the high quality brand tools provided. I have never used the tool but I think you will find the mystery round bar is the handle to turn the spark plug socket.
Regarding market price: I've also been looking for a few missing tools. Actually most of them were stolen out of my garage (luckily the thieves were just in for a quick grab, the 308 was unharmed). But it seems that at least on Ebay most tools are offered in the US. Apart from the already high asking prices this would add considerable shipping costs and duty taxes for me. And to be honest, the tools themselves aren't very pretty They don't carry any Ferrari marks (so I think the thieves don't even know what they have in their hands). Anyway, I was wondering if Ferrari used the same tools as other marques. Maybe Fiats or Alfas of the same period? And if memory serves me correctly, my wrenches are also made by Everest but I'll look it up later (1978 308 GTB).
Everest "Forged in India" is correct and original for the 1976-79 cars, IMO. I have three sets and one of them is Everest......looks good to me! Clean that rust off! LOL! You DO have two carb tools, and the early pliers are always suspect....Tom S. is the man to ask... The round bar is the top of the plug wrench obviously....some of mine are frozen in the tool... The nice thing about your kit, IMO is the matching amber screwdrivers, that's original.... Ferrari UK had the whole roll (for the 328) at about $325 for awhile........older 308s would need the carb tool added, available from Pierce Manifolds, the Weber parts support. Look good to me...
I bought a metric wrench set at Pep Boys.... Within a week the chromium chipped off a few and they are marked "Forged in India"...... I don't use them in my roll but I thought the "India" thing was interesting.... Here's the 328 roll, you'll note the many minor differences, from our carbed car set........ notably the addition of the logo onto everything.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, you are correct. Image Unavailable, Please Login By the way, here is where I store them -- not in the car. I always thought they were special but simply didn't know if they were original. When I heard the tool kits have a reputation of slipping away from a car I started keeping them in the house in a safe my wife gave me as a present. I would like to keep them with the car but I do lots of things with the car where it's not locked and not in sight for a long time around crowds. And, yes, there is some rust in there. I need to clean them up . Image Unavailable, Please Login
No one knows, your not supposed to use them!! HA BTW here is the perfect original kit for the 75 GT4 notice the tartan plaid on the inside cover! I keep mine in the car, "Form my cold dead fingers" sort of thing!!!!! Rob Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dunno. I asked the same thing several months ago and the reply I got was that they are mostly used for asking what they are for, and why doesn't your tool roll have one? Doug
"Carburetor" is a French word, meaning "Don't ^*&*$*$*k with it....." I just LOVE to use that one! LOLOL!
So when were the wrenches marked Polytools ? A friend has a spare set but is unsure what they came out of
It's not just that I don't have a carb tool in my tool roll...I don't have a tool roll at all. Apparently, my car had all its accoutrements pilfered while it was in storage prior to my ownership. I have no paperwork, manuals, tools or spare tire. Thank goodness the car itself was complete.
Do you have the second tool bag, with the jack, handle, spare fan belts, and fuse holder? A spare tire I consider "part of the car"!!!
Coupla thousand bucks maybe : manual set / tool set / jack set / space saver - 500 each ? Having said that a '78 GTS would have had a fifth standard wheel so that should be cheaper...
