When is the Audi R8 Spyder supposed to launch in the US? I saw one on the road today but I didn't think it was out yet.

Ha ha, nobody wants to answers your question. I am soooo tempted to bring in the fail cat pictures. :D

Anyway, I am pretty sure that they are not out yet, at least to the public. It probably was a dealer demo or something like that.

It's... an Audi. Do you really expect anyone to pay attention?

US dealers received a March 15 memo saying that pricing is not finalized, first customer cars due mid to late this year. Audi says demand so far is good, I think they will push these out.

I like the car and plan to get one. I don't care who pays attention. I've bought a Cayenne GTS, and am buying an Audi R8 instead of another Ferrari because, frankly, Ferrari has done little to deserve my business. Ferrari could have had both those sales, and I think needs them right now.

I too am growing fond of Audi. The new S5, designed by former Fiat and Alfa Italian designer, Walter de'Silva, is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. A far better choice than the bland BMW and Mercedes cars currently on the market. In fact, I expect delivery of my new S5 Cabriolet in mid May 2010...

I saw a silver one with a dark red roof on a transport heading to Detroit about a month ago. Stunning.

Seeing But Blind. This terrible affliction effects 1 out of every 10 Americans. You see them every day, wearing Ed Hardy clothes, driving Audi R8s and Saturn Skys, proclaiming Sarah Jessica Parker to be "hot". But it doesn't have to be this way. You can make a difference in the lives of these poor lost souls. Call 1-888-POOR-BASTARD and give, because they might not see how ugly these things are, but you do.

Agreed, Audi is on a roll. The spyder version should be gorgeous, maybe better than the coupe because it loses the controversial side blades.

It also loses the slightly disproportionate roofline. But I wish there was a clear engine cover on the R8 and Lambos. :(

Very handsome combination on a great looking car, look forward to seeing photos.

Straight on side profile is not a good angle for the R8. The strange bulbous roofline looks silly next to the sleek purposeful lines of the Gallardo or Murcielago.

But the R8 is still one of the most beautiful cars out there. Certainly more eye-catching in some ways, especially with a contrast sideblade.

    I'd rank it currently...

    670 SV, 599XX, 458, 560-4 Gallardo, 430 Scud, R8, Vantage, Granturismo...

I have never been a fan, and I think the A5 is by far the best looking Audi right now. To me the R8 is not a sports car but a rather boring GT car, but to each his own, but then again I like sports cars that scare the piss out of you, and will kill you if you do respect or know how to handle their power.

Congratulations on the purchase. I took out both a new S4 and an S5. Though the S4 felt more nimble and quicker than the S5 I loved the exhaust note and the lower end power of the S5. Both very beautiful cars none-the-less.
