As mom always told me as a kid, "Always be aware of your surroundings".

Cars catching on fire, but for (at least) three 458's already to be catching on fire this has to be a serious problem. It is apparent though that each of these fires is all starting on the drivers side.

well, if the same % of toyotas and fords were catching on fire, it would be front page news 24/7. The whole toyota sticking pedal thing was a menial fraction of a percentage and you see how badly that turned out for them.

well in general if you have the motor and the fuel tank in the same part of the car you are asking for trouble, that's why I so surprized to a Porsche burning but that is rare

    That's what I'm getting at...

Just what is that %age, though, that draws the attention of safety regulators? If your sample size is 2,000,000 cars sold, that might mean something. But, in the world of statistics, small smaple sizes often don't give meaningful results. Or, at least, the confidence in the results isn't high.

How many of these fires (regardless of make) are directly
attributable to installation of non OEM after market alarms,
engine cut off switches, CD/DVD players et.al?

One of, if not the biggest, problems encountered are these
so-called high-end stereo or alarm outfits who spot an
expensive exotic and their sap owners with more money
than brains and sell them these absolutely unnecessary items
installed by eighth grade drop outs who will routinely
hack into a car's wiring harness to make them all work!

The Murci that burned to the ground in Brooklyn a couple
of months ago was a perfect example. Incorrectly installed
DVD player zapped the electrical system = fire.

I wonder if any these that have burned were cars in the United States? It should not make much difference of location. If you notice again this fire is on the left rear side of the car and consistent with the others. This has to be a major issue and a recall coming soon. The number that have burned versus the ones that have been sold would be a recall in a heart beat in the United States. If some one can prove these 4 burned in the United States with so few of these in the hands of owners the Highway safety group would shut sales of these cars in a minute.

I'd rather have the car burned to the ground so insurance can cover the whole thing (as long as I'm not in it), rather than having it the flames put out and fixed.
Resale value would drop like a rock.

    Still a pity, but it's not a limited-run model.

The black one that ended up with a hole in the rear left side is registered in France.
Dunno about the 2 or 3 others.

this looks like the same Swiss car that was already posted...
seems we like multiplying posts to give the impression there have been more cases of fire!

The first car on fire on the other post was black. This one is red. Looks like two different Italias.

By the way, are our Ferrari's hazardous to our health? I'm getting a little concerned!
