Multi-year tie-up sees ALMS leave SpeedTV. http://americanlemans.com/primary1.php?cat=news%7C15452 BHW
covered here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=309153 is there any way SpeedTV ISN'T screwed? first ALMS, supposedly F1 after 2011.
Who the hell do you think you are !!?? Why should I be happy to watch espn3 when I was watching SPEED in HD on a 50" screen !!??
uncalled for. hook your laptop up to your TV. the way I see it, rather than just taking an edited, tape-delay only solution the ALMS and ABC/ESPN came up with a way to do live, uncut races via the internet. let's face it, sports car racing (and F1, for that matter) are niches within a niche in the US. we're lucky to get any coverage. ALMS managed to ensure we get live coverage. that's a win. plus, more and more live "TV", particularly sporting events, is being broadcast via the internet. it's the way things are going.
Your RIGHTEST answer was Uncalled for !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Speaking of NEGATIVITY !!!!!!!!!!! Also , the ALMS races were broadcast live on SPEED, with a few exceptions !!
Ok I just kicked the cat out of the sand box, so we are still getting coverage but it's time delayed, I can live with that since I have no say so.
first IRL you mean? or should i say first WRC? ALMS is not at all first. they are almost last in a long line of screwing! gawd so much for ALMS. they have been hurting but now we know how much. bad enough watching races on VS or Fox, ESPN is not even grimacing tolerable. but anyway this doesn't screw SPEED at all. now they can show more high paying NASCAR shows. like F355Bvc says, it's the fans (the few of us left) getting screwed.
Last year I watched the live internet streams offered by the ALMS with audio commentary courtesy of the Radio Le Mans crew. Did I feel screwed? Not in the least! It was so refreshing to watch the entire race without breaking every 10 minutes for 5 minutes worth of snake oil ads or having the race interrupted for an hour so that we could be subjected to some useless NASCAR truck race qualifying garbage. And to see an ALMS qualifying session broadcast for the first time? Fantastic! I think this is a very shrewd move on the part of the ALMS. Offer the hard core fans live streaming video over the web while making new fans through their coverage on ESPN/ABC. Radio Le Mans has already proved without a doubt the viability of the concept of narrow casting to a niche audience, and I think the ALMS is wise to follow their lead. So to the whiners and doubters out there I say: join the 21st century guys! This is the way many sporting events with niche audiences are going to be offered in the future. As to their move away from SPEED I say good riddance! Now if F1 can cut the cord with them I'll have no need or desire to know what cable channel SPEED is on. Period. Gary
