Supercar Specialists is having a drive to Jerome this Saturday. If you haven't driven Mingus Mountain, you are in for a switch back treat. So, who is going to scrub their P Zero Corsas with me, and put a few miles on their CS? Dan? Ernie? Ron? Jim? Xpresso? Dave?
Have a feeling it'll be a pretty nice turnout if the weather holds up, and I think it will. Going to try to make it down for the start.
It birthday party season for the little ones. I'll pass on this Sat and be in N. Cal next Sat. Then NASCAR at PIR, and then the LA Auto Show the week after that. But I'll be at a C&C sometime in 2012!
hummm...I get back from Sf really late on Friday (I know, whaaaa)...and you know me and early mornings...what time does this thingy start?
Wake up and get that stripped 'rat box' out! I need someone to attract the cops for me! Hopefully we'll see you on Sat
Sorry for the delay in replying guys, stuck covering work all weekend. Looking forward to seeing you guys next week at C&C!
I didn't go (would have taken someone along if I did). Too much freeway on that drive! Thinking of making a Scottsdale-Globe-Payson-Scottsdale run one day this week...may take ear plugs I'll be at C&C next weekend unless too hung over.
There had to have been 40+ cars, and just looking at the crew, I knew it was going to be a 5 under the speed limit parade, and they were going the wrong way up Mingus Mountain to Jerome. So, I grabbed Joey and split without them...... and went the fun way! The way we went was the long way round. We charged up Mingus Mountain. Went through Jerome. Came down the hill to Clarkdale, and stopped at a gas station and yacked for 45 minutes or so......... and then left. When we got half way to Cottonwood, the group started passing us in the opposite direction. I would have needed a straight jacket had I chosen to go with that group! What day were you thinking of a Globe run?
Wait about 10 days, and I will be going to Globe, Payson, and back. Can't wait to take the spider through Superior, and down the Salt River Canyon. Has to be a great drive. Jerry
Dino, Im glad we went the fun way. The scenery was awesome and the mountian drive was very nice. We have to do Payson again, I cant stop thinking of that drive and how awesome it was. We need to get a group together of people that actually like to drive their cars hard like us and take a blast through the mountains again.
I don't know anything about any of those areas/drives but would love to learn with a few cars out there. I'm game and can go about any day so long as I'm not traveling... Let me know when you are thinking!
That sounds like a lot of fun. How long was your round trip (time and mileage)? I don't have a day set...was thinking Thursday or Friday? I'm pretty sure I can't keep up with you though... I spent 2 hours on google maps looking at canyon roads all over and have concluded...the roads around here kinda suck! All the cool sections seem to be at least 50 freeway miles away before we get there? I looked at all the one's from Ron's book, all the one's from earlier threads here...I hope there at least one I don't yet know about that is closer...I'm so used to my CA houses where there are amazing roads seemingly right out the back door...I know, waaaaa...
We left about 10:00, and I was home by 1:30 I believe. That included dropping off Agup and back tracking to get home, as well as 45 mins lounging at a gas station. I think it was 230 or so miles. As for local roads.... go do S. Mountain, or Canyon Lake Thursday/Friday is tough for me, as I see patients.... but Wednesdays are always a possibility!
If only I wasn't boxed in, in the parking lot, it would have been much shorter. We did end up spending a long time at that gas station and we were there for so much longer than the group and they still didn't catch up. South Mountain is a fun road that I've done in my Accord and had a little bit of fun. It's a little scary when there are motorcyclists and cyclists all over. I've even seen videos of bikers crashing because of loose gravel/sand. There definitely needs to be more group rides, preferably a smaller one where it doesn't become a cluster**** of cars.
