I'm thinking of combining a visit to this event with the Mille Miglia that's held the next week.

    Hallo Gisela und Helmut!

I'll be there. Tickets are so cheap that I bought multiples to see the cars from various angles.

We'll stay in Nice. So we need to get together with you guys!

    Hallo Andreas!

We are staying in Cap dÁil (FR), Hotel Miramar from 10-14 May @ 138.00 double with breakast.
Hotel is just 2 km from the track directly in next bay from Monaco Yacht Harbour. One can walk along the coast line, or take bus #100 directly infront of Hotel. Its a small family run french Hotel with just 8 rooms. We always stay there. After the historic we will drive to Brescia, where the Mille starts 17 May. I am sure it will be a great event again. Look forward seeing you there.
We havent got tickets yet, as the Restaurant which we normally sit at changed ownership and will reopen in Feb. We actually prefer the stands from this restaurant ( first corner after start) as it includes lunch, beverages and has WC toilett facilities on the premises. Hope the new owner offers this again. Where are your tickets?
    Best regards
    G&H

My tickets are a bit all over the place (4 different locations). It was a nice "luxury" to do that. Imagine if this was the modern F1 GP and you'd buy 4 tickets just for yourself. :)

I'll be in Monaco with a few friends from the Ferrari Scuderia. We'll have to make sure to all get together. Maybe Helmut even knows them from his times with the team.

I'm also trying to get a F1 ride in Le Luc before the Historic GP.
    http://www.formel1-fahren.com/

Wouldn't that be something Helmut is interested in?

Mille Miglia sounds greats. I've done it once outside the official "race". Fantastic scenery.

As soon as we have hotel reservations, I'll let you know. Lets stay in touch.

Would be nice to meet you in person. I think I still owe you an apology and a beer. ;)

I pm'd Rennmaus, but if others might be willing to share information on where to stay, seating, etc., I would be grateful. I can't go top-drawer, but I can afford a moderately priced holiday. Does that limit us to staying in Nice and commuting by train? Or should I just commit to finding the funds for staying in Monaco. I'd love to spend some time in France; I have invites to several research labs and we might be able to combine some business and pleasure. I also have a 1972 Chevron B20 that I am slowly restoring and it would be fantastic to meet other Chevron owners outside the U.S.

    My thanks-
    Steve

Just read this and I can't remember you owing me anything but there's certainly nothing wrong with meeting in Monaco and/or Italy and having a drink (no beer for me though, I don't drink :)

I'd like to come with the 308 but it depends on the weather. I'll arrange things a the last possible moment. I'll keep in touch on here.

    Best, Peter

Monaco and moderately priced don't really go well together. That's why we will stay in Nice, which is a quick train or car ride away from Monaco. Also Nice is a phantastic city with lots of things to do, places to eat and museums to visit. And did I mention the beach? ;)

The prices for the historic GP grandstands are pretty much all the same, so it doesn't really matter financially. Pick what you like, on their website they even give you a preview of what the view from the grandstand will be like. The obvious choices are around the harbor. The area of the casino and tunnel are harder to get to (Monaco is built on a steep hill).

I'm glad you have forgotten my rude attempts at moderating. :)

You are a brave man! If you do this, then you must however take your 308 to the Col de Turini for a foto shoot! :)

It will be tight for me to meet up with everybody as my F1 experience will be on Friday. That basically leaves me with only Sunday at the Historic GP. Oh well, lets get back together on here as the date gets closer.

For which event? Historic GP or regular F1 GP?

Both phenomenal events and both very different.

If you go through the pain of coming all the way across the Atlantic, I suggest you do both together. After all they are only 2 weeks apart and 2 weeks can easily be spent exploring the Provence and the Cote d'Azur.

Just booked a hotel, also in Cap d'Ail :)

Also booked hotels in Maranello, Brescia and Ferrara. Better be safe than sorry, especially with the Mille going on.

I have a question for those that have attended the Historic GP before. It's the first time for me. How is the accessibility? Is it possible to see/photograph the cars in the paddock and/or pitlane/boxes? How well can you take pictures of the action from the grandstands? Is it possible at all (for press) to get trackside?

I was planning to apply for media accreditation but can't find a link on their website. But if there's no real gain than I think I won't bother because to me the admission price is very reasonable.

Edit: additional question: tickets are for Saturday and Sunday only. But is there already something to see on Friday? Practice?

    Thanks, Peter

I haven't been to the event but from what I heard it is not a sell out and I can't imagine we won't be able to get close to the cars. I'm thinking it'll be similar to Goodwood.

It is only Ecclestone who prevents access to F1 so he can sell his VIP tickets. Normal racing events aren't like that at all.

Also a friend of mine (no, not ProCoach) will be in pitlane assisting one of the US drivers and he already invited me to come along. I doubt he'd be so generous if the event was very restricted.

Aside from that: In Monaco you are so close to the track, that even in the worst case a 200 mm lens should get you the cars up and close enough.

PS: In case you find press credentials, would you mind passing that info to me? I will actually write an article for a US car magazine.

Would be nice to meet you and your hubby again.

As well as Anthony and his wife.

Seems like we're gonna have a bit of a FChat reunion going on here.

The program mentions a Ferrari parade. Anyone know what this means? If everything goes to plan I'll be there with the 308 and a lap or two on this famous circuit would be great, if that's what this parade is about. I know, it's a street circuit and I have driven those streets when there was no race going on but I guess that's not the same. :)

(p.s. I'm planning to go to the Le Mans Classic as well and for 145 euro you can drive your own Ferrari for a lap around the complete circuit).

Just finalized the paperwork for my F1 drive on May 11 at the (former) AGS test track in Le Luc.

    :) :) :) :) :)

The downside of that is, that I'll be short on time for the GP weekend as we'll be hitting the road to Nice on Saturday. I'll be in Monaco on Sunday for sure (don't know yet about Saturday afternoon).

Would be great if some of you could stay in Nice. We could have dinner together on Saturday. Our hotel is near the pedestrian/old part of town (a few blocks from the park/Promenade des Anglais).

As an American I won't have a cell phone with me, so coordinating any get-togethers at the track will be difficult. That said I have bought tickets for Sunday for the Grandstands A1 and V, so maybe we can meet there?

Also we won't be leaving Nice until Tuesday, so if somebody is up for a drink on Monday, that'd be cool too.
