And this one is box stock Revell kit in 1:25. I just wanted to play with fire, so the flames are painted on. Not a single decal on this model. I have a question for the model builders here. I want to transform a 308 GTB into a rally version with the wider rear fenders. I've already made the fenders out of plastic tube and need to attach them to the body. I want to use putty and glue for this. When that's done the body needs to be painted. Currently it's black and needs to become light blue (Pioneer livery). My question is: do I really need to strip all the black paint for attaching the fenders or can I just leave the paint on? I've got bad experience with stripping paint so if I could leave it on that would be great. Thanks, Peter
If its a diecast the paint should be very hard and not need to be stripped, unless you want to paint over it with car paint. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 17th 2012
Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's indeed a diecast model, a Hot Wheels 1/18 308 GTB. Thanks, not sure yet what kind of paint will be used (I'm not very good at painting, so might source that out). So I'll find out first before proceeding with the fenders.
I do diecast models for a living and in my experience it varies greatly. I personally started using a two part automotive primer/sealer. It is not solvent based and because of that you can spray it pretty much over anything. Once it seals you can follow with whatever. The issue with tbe 308 you have is, that it is from the newer Elites with correct door hinges instead of the " dogleg" ones. So you have to be very careful not to build up paint on the doors as it will rub and chip them. But over all I have found out that there is no better primer for a diecast than the paint that comes on it. Make sure you sand and wash the black thats on it and then hit it with blue (altho I would put white underneath) See what happens. In the worst case scenario you would have to strip the paint. But if it is uncompatible with the paint you are using you would've had to do it anyway. Tamiya makes an exceptionally cood and very fine white primer that is quite forgiving. Try that. Then IIRC they have "french blue" in spray can that I think is a perfect match for the Pioneer blue .
Thanks for the information. The doors, engine lid, front lid and front and rear spoilers are all plastic on the regular HW 308. So those can't be stripped. I have the grey Tamiya primer and Tamiya blue you mentioned. That is a very close match to the real deal. Here are some WIP pics. Thank you. Yes this yellow is a metallic. Actually technically it is not. It is a tri-coat pearl, which creates a somewhat shifting effect. So in certain light it looks metallicky and almost gold and on other occasions it looks just like a regular yellow. It was introduced on Ferraris with the 458 Italia. The full name is Giallo Modena Triplo Strati.
Her is another 599 Hamann done in Bianco Fuji Matt. It is on its way to Dubai. Enjoy and thanks for looking Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
