    Hi Everyone,
I might have a buyer for my 599 but he lives in Canada.. Iam checking with my dealer but would like to know the process for getting the daytime running lights switched on and the cost to do so.
His dealer in Canada is giving him the runaround and is trying in vain to sell him a car to the point of suggesting a repaint and interior change on one of their 599s!!!!!! Unbelievable:(
I would like to get this done before it ships to him so if anyone can offer some help or suggestions please let me know ASAP. Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

Are we just talking about lights automatically on once you start the car or do they need to run at say 25% power (like in certain Scandinavian countries)?

If 100% on is all you need I'd suggest an auto-electrician is your man. Simple enough to wire a relay so the lights are on once the ignition is turned.

Assuming of course that the local dealer cannot just enable a software toggle.

    Best of luck.

    Greg,
My potential buyer is in Canada so I don't think he needs 100% on. This is what his dealership told him:
The service manager says to download a new proxy file in the module (I think is in the neighborhood of $2500 there is no exact figure just an idea, but the good new is no cluster needed.
I would think that quite a bit to turn on DRLs? I also told him I would pay which is no problem just want to get a true amount for both of us. Thanks Kevin

I don't know if this helps or not, but I'll throw it out there just in case.

My 348 came down from Canada, and what is describe above is what the previous Canadian owner had done to make it legal there. Basically the fog lights were wired up with a relay to turn on with the ignition and apparently this was sufficient to meet the letter of the law. A good thing the fog lights were sufficient. Having the pop up headlights on as DRL would drive me nuts.

If using the foglights is an option for a 599... well, the cost of a relay and some minor electrical work I would think wouldn't be anywhere near the $2500 mentioned.

I realize I'm talking apples to oranges. Current cars to over-the-hill cars. But hey... just something to consider.

    Hello
If the dealer could enable the lights that would be best to keep everything looking original. But the offical inspection point for the Canadian government is Canadian Tire. They also sell a universal DLR kit for about $70.00 plus about 1/2 hour to install.
This kit could be easily removed, originality restored, after the inspection depending on the install.

Yup! This sounds like "the business" if it works. Tried, tested etc. Why re-invent the wheel?

Daniel knows about all this stuff. Changed the lights in my SUV (which is licenced in Canada), he offered a $40 relay setup to make the turn signals act as daytime running lights. Eurocars have all gone for this setup, and itś legal. If your buyer is in Toronto, I suggest Rockś Auto Restoration on Gerrard to install. Odd name, but a Ferrari specialist shop.
