Peter Gregg in top photo I am not sure where (Road America?), is the second photo of the BMW at MidOhio also Peter Gregg? Last photo is Al Holbert: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
BMW is definitely at Mid Ohio, but I don't recall many if any running Dunlop rubber in IMSA. Does anyone remember?
I just noticed the Ford Capri back in the back in front of Brad Frissell's Nissan. They were super quick, duking it out with the BMW CSL's in the German Touring Car races. Who ran the Capri, was it Horst Kwech?
I think that it was Brad Frissell(sp) in the Z car, don't remember Bob Sharp competing IMSA at this time. He would have race number 33, no?
i owned that gtu car from 1984-85. i bought it from rick kendrick who was consigning the car w/ lee holman. i never raced it and sold it to the hurley brothers. i would have never known it was going to be an important enough car to command the kind of money that canepa is asking. it is just one of many cars i never should have sold!!! pcb
that was brad's car in the picture. the z car w/ g-nose was the gtu champion. when i sold that car, wes moss had just done the engine before he headed off to electromotive. he was an amazing resource! i sold the z car in 1985 for $15k with a HUGE spares package.
Going from the paint scheme and my feeble memory, I am thinking that the Camaro is Carl Shafer but I could be mistaken. Getting back to the BMW CSL's, were they campaigned for the whole season in IMSA prior to Peter Gregg's switch? I remember that Hobbs and Hans Stuck competed in races but only the endurance races(Daytona, Sebring). Again, I could be wrong. Did they use Dunlop racing tires? Thanks.
MAN!! I'm a multi-time Z-Car owner, I would have killed to own that!! The flares and G-Nose look great - not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it. I also like that it uses the L-24 / 26 / 28 engine - very stout and easy to modify. Any videos of the car?
no videos as i never raced it. i have a good many period pics of the car and the trailer while i owned it. it was all red when i had it. the g nose and all the body was dzus fastened and it was a very trick car in the day. the spares package was amazing. two full motors, two full datsun comp direct top gear boxes, three sets of wheels...the list went on. it was a dream of mine to race that car but i never got to race it. it did run again for the first time in the 1986 camel gt at charlotte speedway w/ the new owners. it was silver when they painted it in their colors. if i had only known how big vintage racing was to become i would have kept that car. when i get back east i will find and scan the photos in.
In the picture above where Follmer is putting the slot car back on track, that is HHH (Hurley H Haywood) on the right.
Road Atlanta Paul Newman's Datsun in the rain. Then paul after he won his first national title and the race. Mid 1970's a very cold day in November. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Who is the driver behind Ms. Woodward , I can't remember the name. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Al Holbert was at Road Atlanta in a brand new Can-Am car. This was during the weekend when Ferrari had rented the track for us ferrari owners. So, we let him do some laps, and then there were no crews, corner workers, Radio's. Al did not come around in the time a Can-Am car should , we all got in our cars and found him with a shovel trying to put out his burning car. As, you can see it melted to the track. Most unreal thing I had seen. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
