Found Mad Manga today! Never thought in a million years that Hot Wheels would do a Bosozoku car! Bosozoku is a subculture of car, van and motorcycle customization in Japan. The design ethos can be described as race inspired, taken to absurdist levels. I love the style, it reminds me of the ridiculous show rods of Big Daddy Ed Roth and George Barris, with an Asian flavor. ]Here is Hot Wheels' Bosozoku, Mad Manga Here is a real Bosozoku car
Yes, I found two of them in New Braunsfels last weekend, picking up a Sony CD player for the hotel room.... They are "New for 2012".... Sure enough, at 1AM after the Gruene Hall Show "Turn that music DOWN!!".. LOL! My buddy from Austin thinks everyone plays music until 4AM.... I also picked up a LP 570-4 Superleggera dark blue/gold stripes.....
Now I'm in the hunt for the 599XX in red and the silver Bentley Continental Super Sport which are already out according to Hotwheels website.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread or elsewhere but are any of you familiar with the Kyosho Minicar series? I found some in Japan when I was there a few months ago but I wish I bought more because I don't think they can be easily bought in the states. They are nicely detailed 1:64 die cast cars. On eBay they are going for 5-10x the price of a 1/64 Hot Wheels car but I think they are worth it because the extra details make them really stand out. -F
Below are some comparison pictures of a Hot Wheels F430 Spider and a 430 Scuderia with a Kyosho 16M. -F Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is the normal 599XX and a "super treasure hunt" one that is darker red and has wheels like the older Garage series cars. Way too much on eBay right now for one.
Taken from iPhone cam with my motor mouthing. https://fbcdn-video-a.akamaihd.net/cfs-ak-snc7/v/439304/443/10150920276073173_19770.mp4?oh=6c2232b1d251204c9a595ec0c6ba45ca&oe=4FF48220&__gda__=1341424160_3be154e8465127838133af64ec321692
I have a few of them. Pretty nice except the 1/64 scale compared to Hotwheels is slightly smaller. The red they use for ferraris for the most part is darker than Hotwheels as well. They come on a card in a box and must be assembled depending on the model, snap and screw together is easy. They don't roll very well .They come with a black plastic stand that you screw the car on. As you said some are pretty expensive and are sent from Japan. If you go to EBay and type in 1/64 Ferrari in your search you will find a lot of them in various colors. There are many varieties available.
Yes, the 16M looks great, as does the 599XX and the Dino. Personally I think they are worth the added (like around 5x) cost. -F
Yup I got the the 2013 Viper SRT, a black Z4 M, silver One-77 with black wheels, a yellow Porsche 911 GT2, and the 599XX. Noboby seems to collect no more as this thread is in the cold.
I'm still scanning the pegs, but production or stocking is way down on Ferraris and Lambos here.. So, 'no news" to report, the last score was two 458 Italia Spiders, red.
There's one corner of town I can hit a SuperWalmart, a ToysRUs and a Target all at the same time, I'll go this week and check it out. I was doing some mods to a Target Jewelry Department last week, but other than a few yellow Pontiac Firebird 400, and a Ferrari 5 Pack, they had zilch!
While I've scaled back my hunting by a bit to afford a new hobby, yesterday I still found another silver FF and the 2013 Viper
I have the 599XX regular. I went to Target a couple weeks ago, found a jammed M case. No super. Dang it.
