Call your dealer. That is what I did on my 430 Spider. I was so suprised, I gave it to them and purchased a Cali. Best decision I have made in years

I sold my 2010 Cali about a year ago with almost 30,000 mi, the suggested values above make sense. I sold it on Cars.com but giving it to the dealer certainly takes away the worry of it selling.

    Hey Rick!
I have a question: if you trade in your old car and get credit towards the purchase of a new car, do you pay sales tax for the difference (new car price - trade-in price) or are you responsible for the sales tax on the full new car value.

In California the sales tax is high 8.25% this year and maybe even higher in the near future.

That's the case for my state. GET is paid on the difference between new car and trade-in price which makes hassle-free trade-in a more attractive alternative. As an example, my friend traded in his LP560-4 for his 458 Spider and factored in the $8K saved on GET into his decision rather than deal with tire-kickers and joy riders.

This is not the case for Kalifornia IIRC. YMMV.

Wow...news to me...I had no idea there were any states that don't provide full tax credit on the trade-in. That sucks. In Fla, I traded my Cali to an exotic car dealer down the street from a marina where I bought a new boat. Even in that case, I just ran the car title thru the boat dealer (perfectly legal) and got full trade-in credit reducing the boat sales tax bill by a useful 12 or 13k.

100% sure. doesn't matter what you trade in, you always pay full tax on auto purchase.

Definitely varies by state. Florida taxes the difference. Many others tax the full new sale regardless of trade. Check your state policy and move if necessary! :)
