Here are the new Penske shocks on my 512TR race car The side to side rocking while cornering speed is gone the car feels Very stable and planted and neutral and I can drive it faster I was testing it at the National Meet at Watkins Glen and I was doing 2:10 w no 4th gear which slowed me down considerably w 4th gear I would probably be down near 2:00 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
the car sits about an inch lower now and just feels much better next steps will be new bushings (maybe poly or metal), custom sway bars, and custom adjustable control arms Next time I run at Lime Rock I expect to see 0:56, maybe faster w more practice I didnt have 4th gear bcus the new race trans 4th gear was out of adjustment, but it was 1st time for it so a few bugs are to be expected The photos above also show the new race radiators and F50 brakes
Top is the race car w Penskes bottom is before Penske its only an inch or 2 difference so it may not be obvious Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, I had some but I'll have to take some more Its totally stripped w 2 race seats, w 8 point + NASCAR style cage, fuel cell, Stacks instruments, etc Doors are just shells Not very luxurious but very, very fast
the car is an inch lower? congrats... from 44.7inch to 43.7 inchs... makes your car's overall height....the lowest Ferrari on record... unless somone has lowered their F50.... even the enzo and FXX are at 45inch (stock)
Sweet! Somehow I realized before seeing who the post was by that it was the Hubbster's project! <very big grin> Congrats! -Peter (headed to the Glen to teach school and look after clients at the SVRA vintage race) www.peterkrause.net
Do you have a part number for the Penke shocks and also a # or spring rate for the springs you are using? By the way, are you using Penske front and rear? Lastly, would you have any advice/insight as to what the proper Penske shock & spring combo would be best for "spirited" street driving? Thanks for your time and insight in advance. Kerry PS 1987 TR is the possible recipient of this upgrade............
william...i was looking at the pics and was going to suggest 3 pc. heim jointed sway bars be made. add that to a proper corner weighting and you will have a very unique and fast machine!!!
Hi William, I know it has been a few years since these posts, but I was hoping to get some info on the shocks you are using, I know Kerry Wittig asked some similar questions a few years back but I could not find any answers; Do you have a part number for the Penske shocks ? and any info on spring rate for the springs you are using? I made contact with Aaron Lambert from Penske a few years ago he sent some pdf's but I was never sure if these are the ones you were using.
